Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa, has clarified that results from nine constituencies remain unreported, despite her official declaration of the 2024 general election outcomes.
She identified the unreported constituencies as Awutu Senya East, Nsawam Adoagyiri, Akwatia, Suhum, Techiman South, Dome Kwabenya, Ablekuma North, Ahafo Ano North, and Damongo.
Mrs Mensa said the outstanding results would not alter the declared election results.
She explained that even if all the votes from these nine constituencies were added to those of the second-placed candidate, it would not surpass the total votes of the leading candidate.
Speaking at the EC headquarters on December 9, 2024, Mensa assured the public, “The total registered voters in these constituencies amount to 947,116. Even if every valid vote from these constituencies went to the second-placed candidate, he would still not surpass the votes of the leading candidate.”
She further elaborated, “In such a case, the second-placed candidate would garner 5,604,420 votes, which represents 46.17% of the total valid votes. The inclusion of the outstanding constituencies would give the leading candidate 52.13%, still above the 50% plus one required to be declared the winner.”
Following her address, Jean Mensa officially declared the results of the 2024 presidential election.
John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was declared the winner with 6,328,397 votes, representing 56.55%. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, came second with 4,657,304 votes, representing 41.61%.
