Ghana has real foundational problems and until we tackle them, we will swim against the tide. This will result in our having to police everything including our own drinking water.
I want to use this Mothers’ Day to set agenda “Quality not Quantity” to bring our minds home to a ticking bomb among which include,
(a) Ghana’s Under 15 years population is 39.9% ( GSS labour force report 2015)
(b) Daily net increase of 1,800 (800,000 annually)
(c) 17% of pregnancies are unwanted (DHS 2014)
(d) High school dropout at primary and JHS levels
(e) High unemployment (38.7% of 15-24 year olds with tertiary education unemployed (GSS labour force report 2015)
This is clearly not sustainable. If we don’t nurture good mothers, they will give us social delinquents.
From 8p.m. to 9p.m. on the Joy 99.7 FM I delve into some of these issues and on PM Express on the JOYNEWS channel on MultiTV, my guest will be the National Population Council, Executive Director, Dr. Leticia Appiah MD, MPH.
My name is Nana Ansah Kwao IV
Join me set this agenda.
