The Textile and Garment Workers Union of the Ghana Trades Union Congress (TUC) is set to demonstrate over some concerns in the sector.
An executive member of the union, Kofi Abeka, who disclosed this on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen, Thursday, said they were protesting over the failure of the anti-counterfeit taskforce set up by the government to deal with the proliferation of fake textiles on the market.
The protest is expected to take place in Accra on April 27, 2018.

According to the workers, the government taskforce, consisting of security personnel and other industry players has been inactive for some time.
He said they want the work of the taskforce re-activated as soon as possible and therefore the best thing to get their problems resolved is to hit the street to register their displeasure.

“Sometimes you may think we are being hard [sic] but that is what you have to do to make sure that things are done right; these are challenges that the trade ministry is going to face”, he said.
“We, as a labour union, are not going to do things to frustrate him [the minister]; he must be allowed to work and any advice they want from unions we are prepared to help because after-all, it’s the results we want”, he said.
