The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trade Union Congress (TUC)-Ghana has threatened to embark on industrial action.
TEWU explained that the decision is a result of the government’s prolonged delay in finalizing, signing, and implementing the conditions of service for some of its members, despite years of review negotiations.
The union has warned that its members are running out of patience and will be left with no choice but to embark on an indefinite industrial action, effective Monday, November 18, 2024.
In a statement, TEWU mentioned the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Ghana Library Authority, the Museums and Monuments Board, as well as the Public Technical Universities and Public Universities.
“It is worrying that the issue regarding the various Conditions of Service for our members has been dragging on for years,” the statement read in part.
It added that TEWU members had expected these documents to have been implemented by now.
“Unfortunately, for the past four years, it has rather been a back-and-forth with the government agencies. With the new academic year underway, especially with the admission process for first-year students, our members can no longer continue to work under uncertain Conditions of Service,” it noted.
