The Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU) of the Trade Union Congress (TUC)-Ghana has threatened to embark on an indefinite industrial action by September 20.
In a statement, TEWU said it will be joining the Senior Staff Association–Universities of Ghana (SSA-UOG) and the Federation of Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG).
The action according to TEWU is in protest of unresolved issues regarding their conditions of service.
TEWU among others cited the Controller and Accountant General’s Department’s (CAGD) non-implementation of the negotiated and approved Vehicle Maintenance and Off–Campus allowances despite an approval letter by the Ministry of Finance on 2nd August, 2024.Â
“The unfulfilled promise by Government to recalculate and pay members Tier Two interest that has accrued from the delayed payment of the Tier Two deductions to our Scheme from January, 2010-2016.Â
“Failure on the part of government to regularly remit our Tier Two deductions to our Scheme for our Fund Managers to effectively manage and guarantee enhanced pensions. Currently, the government is owing our Tier Two deductions from January, 2024 to date (8 months) even though, such deductions were made from our hard–earned salaries,” the statement noted.
