The Teachers and Educational Workers Union of the Trades Union Congress (TEWU-TUC) has suspended its industrial strike which commenced on Monday, November 18, 2024.
The suspension follows a meeting held with the National Labour Commission (NLC) and relevant stakeholders on Wednesday, November 20.
In this regard, TEWU members are expected to resume full work by Monday, 25th November 2024
TEWU had cited prolonged delays in finalising and implementing Conditions of Service agreements for staff in the Ghana Education Service (GES), Ghana Museums and Monuments Board, Public Technical Universities, and Public Universities.
But in a statement, the Union noted the stakeholders are expected to meet NLC again on Wednesday, November 27 to hear the substantive matter.
“In view of the NLC’s directive, the TEWU of TUC(Ghana) leadership initiated immediate steps to engage the structures of the Union to abide by the Commission’s orders. After the necessary consultation among the structures of the Union, regarding such matters.
“We, therefore wish to announce to our various stakeholders that OUR INDUSTRIAL ACTION HAS BEEN SUSPENDED,” portions of the statement read.
The Union has said it is counting on the NLC to swiftly help to address their grievances without feet dragging by any of the management of the affected institutions, to prevent further disturbances on the industrial front.
“We assure our cherished members that, the leadership of TEWU of TUC(Ghana), is bent on ensuring that there will be finality to the issue of the Conditions of service of the affected institutions for immediate implementation.
“Our members are being short-changed with the continuous delay in concluding and implementing the Conditions of Service and this cannot be allowed to continue,” it added.
