Staff at the Tetteh Quarshie Memorial Hospital in the Akuapem North Municipality, Eastern Region, are set to hold a peaceful protest today, November 1.
This protest aims to highlight the alarming frequency of high-speed vehicle accidents on the road adjacent to the hospital.
The demonstration seeks to draw urgent attention to the tragic loss of life and safety risks posed by speeding vehicles, which endanger both hospital staff and patients.
Since May 2024, over six fatalities have occurred on this stretch, with most victims being patients en route to the hospital or staff members.
The recent tragic death of a nurse, who was fatally struck by a speeding vehicle after her shift on Wednesday, has intensified calls for action, fueling grief and frustration among her colleagues.
Hospital spokesperson and protest convenor, Bengalaxy Elorm Attipoe, explained that the two-hour demonstration, beginning at 9:00 AM, seeks to send a clear message to community members and authorities about the urgent need for safety measures.
“We’re out here today to demand action. We need a modernized speed ramp on this road to prevent more tragic losses. It’s devastating to see a colleague suffer such a preventable fate,” he emphasized.
