The Minister for Employment, Labour Relations, and Pensions, Ignatius Baffour Awuah, has extended the tenure of the current Board of Trustees of the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT).
The board’s term, which expired on August 9, 2024, has been extended until January 6, 2025.
This announcement was confirmed by Salam Aminu Mohammed, the Public Relations Officer at the Ministry on Monday, December 2.
He stated that, the Minister revealed the decision at a meeting with the SSNIT Board of Trustees on Thursday, November 28, 2024, at the Ministry’s Conference Hall.
During the meeting, the Minister emphasized that the extension aligns with the tenure of the President. The decision was made under Section 35 (1) (2) of the National Pensions Act, 2008 (Act 766).
Explaining the rationale, the Minister noted that it was more prudent for the existing Board to continue its work until January 6, 2025, rather than reconstituting a new one.
