Tension mounts as 3 sustain gunshot wounds in Akyem Asuom

Tension is escalating in Akyem Asuom, located in the Kwaebibirem Municipality of the Eastern Region, as three individuals have reportedly sustained gunshot wounds following a violent clash between the local chief, Osabarima Ofosuhene Apenteng II, and the youth over the control of an old palace.

According to information gathered by Adom News’ Kwasi Azor, the confrontation spiraled out of control when the police intervened to prevent the agitated crowd from attacking the chief. The situation turned violent, resulting in the shooting of three residents.

The victims include seven-year-old Nana Kwasi and 50-year-old Alex Twum, both of whom were rushed to St. Dominic Catholic Hospital in Akwatia for medical attention.

Another victim, Ofori Dominic, was treated and discharged at the Asuom Health Center.

In response to the unrest, the Krontihene of Akyem Asuom, Nana Boadi Amponim Obodade III, called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to intervene and restore calm, urging for the protection of children, the vulnerable, and properties in the area.

Meanwhile, some youth in the community spoke to the media, explaining the events leading to the violent confrontation. They have also raised concerns about ongoing tensions in the area.

There is currently a heavy military and police presence in Akyem Asuom to prevent further unrest and ensure public safety.
