Tell your men to stop embarrassing us on the road – Angry drivers to IGP

-

The Concerned Drivers Association of Kumasi is calling on the Inspector General of Police (IGP) David Asante Apeatu to as a matter of urgency order the suspension of vehicles check by police officers on the road.

The former Inspector General of Police (IGP), COP John Kudalor, before the 2016 December polls stopped police personnel from checking vehicles on the road.

According to the Concern drivers, police officials do not stop vehicles to check for registration documents and drivers’ licenses rather they stop them for money.

Public Relation Officer [PRO] for the Concerned Drivers Francis Appiah who spoke to Abusua News said personnel of the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTD) have desisted from focusing on traffic management duties and treating drivers like armed robbers.

”We are urging the police personnel and IGP David Asante Apeatu to stop treating drivers like armed robbers. They are on the road to focus on traffic management duties but not to collect money from drivers” he said.

He added “IGP David Asante Apeatu should know that Ghana doesn’t belong to him though he is the Inspector General of Police, we want the right thing to be done to make our work more comfortable”.

The drivers have however threatened to stage a demonstration on July 17, against government for the introduction of a supposed new Driver’s license into the system.
