Techiman Municipal Assembly fails to elect presiding member for third consecutive time

-

Disappointment and sadness prevailed once again as, for the third consecutive time as the Techiman Municipal Assembly in the Bono East Region failed to elect a Presiding Member.

The special emergency meeting held on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, ended with neither of the two nominees securing the position.

In the first round of voting, Isaac Frimpong, a government appointee, got 25 votes, while his competitor, Issah Adams, Assembly Member for Kenten Electoral Area, garnered 18 votes. One member abstained from voting.

The sixth Assembly, comprising 32 elected assembly members and 13 government appointees, failed to elect a Presiding Member, echoing the results of two previous voting rounds that led to the disqualification of earlier candidates.

In the second round, Isaac Frimpong got 25 votes, and Issah Adams obtained 19 votes, with no rejected ballots.

Consequently, both candidates were disqualified from contesting for the position again.

The election was conducted by Techiman Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission, Williams Apori Bamfo, and his team of officers.

In an interview with the media, Benjamin Yaw Gyarko, the Techiman Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), expressed his frustration at their inability to elect a Presiding Member for the third time.

He lashed out at some Assembly members for taking entrenched partisan positions and urged them to prioritize the development of Techiman to move forward effectively.

Some Assembly members also shared their sentiments with the media after the meeting.
