The chief of Sokode Dwaso, a suburb of Akyem Kukurantumi in the Abuakwa North Municipality of the Eastern Region, Barimah (Dr) Kwabena Awuah I, has appealed to trained teachers to accept postings to the area to help upgrade the standard of education.
Barimah (Dr) Kwabena Awuah I has initiated an award scheme for teachers and pupils in the area as part of efforts to motivate teachers to remain committed to the educational sector and encourage students to work hard to achieve their educational goals.
Speaking at the ceremony, Barimah (Dr) Kwabena Awuah I called on teachers to accept postings in rural areas, likening the work of a teacher to that of a missionary sent to spread the gospel.
He emphasized the importance of teachers accepting postings to areas where education is greatly needed.
At the ceremony, Quarshie Tettey was adjudged the best teacher, while Asare Audrey Darkoa was named the best student.
Speaking to Adom News, both Tettey and Darkoa appealed to the government and other benevolent organizations to expand infrastructure and provide them with an Information Communication Technology (ICT) center and a school bus to help commute pupils from nearby communities to schools.
