Teachers cautioned against defilement

Vice Chairperson of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Gender and MP for Assin North constituency, Abena Duruwa Mensah, has cautioned teachers in the district to abstain from engaging in sexual relations with school girls.

The Assin North legislator gave the caution during the celebration of the “International Day of the Girl Child” at Assin Asempaneye where the first girls’ school in the Assin North District was launched.

The International Day of the Girl Child is celebrated annually on 11th October.

The main aim of the day is to promote girl’s empowerment and fulfilment of their human rights while also highlighting the challenges that girls all over the world face.

It’s against this background that the Assin North MP is threatening to deal ruthlessly with teachers and men who have a sexual relationship with school children which usually abort their vision and future aspirations.

As part of the celebration, the first Girls Boarding School in Assin North District was launched by the Educational Directorate as a way of reducing teenage pregnancy in the area.

Speaking to Adom News, the girl child educational coordinator, Emma Donkor, expressed worry about how young girls drop out of school as a result of teenage pregnancy.
