Taxi driver kills police officer at Doblo

A taxi driver who was allegedly resisting arrest has killed a 44-year-old police officer attached to the Formed Police Unit (FPU) at the Doblo Barrier on the Amasaman–Nsawam Road.
According to reports, the deceased, Sergeant Owusu Appiah was attempting to open and sit in the suspect’s car when the driver of the Hyundai Getz taxi sped off, knocking him in the process.

Brother of the deceased, Charles Adjei Oduro, in an interview on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem, said the suspect taxi driver who was heading towards Nsawam from Amasaman attempted overtaking a Toyota Corolla private car in front of him but damaged the left side mirror of the vehicle in the process.
Both drivers, he alleged, parked their vehicles in the middle of the road and argued over the matter, attracting the attention of Sergeant Owusu.

Mr. Oduro said his brother approached the two drivers and in an attempt to help calm tempers and remove the vehicles from the road to pave way for others, the taxi driver got infuriated and suddenly moved his car in the direction of the policeman.
“He dragged my brother into the ditch, abandoned the vehicle and bolted,” he noted.
Some police officers rushed him to the Amasaman Government Hospital where he was referred to the Police Hospital for further medical treatment but passed away.

Mr. Oduro said the deceased left behind a wife and five children who are devastated about the sudden demise of their beloved.
He was however happy the driver who escaped has been arrested and called on the police to ensure justice is served.
