Multiple award-winning Ghanaian musician and activist, Okyeame Kwame, also known as Kwame Nsia-Apau, has been crowned the winner of the ‘Taste 68 @68’ Celebrity Jollof Competition.
The competition, organized by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) as part of the country’s Heritage Month celebrations, took place at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park on March 14, 2025. The event brought together various industry figures.
Okyeame Kwame competed against Mr. Beautiful, Uncle Ato, Victoria Lebene, and Joyce Blessing.
His entry, named Vegan Jollof, received rave reviews. Some spectators humorously suggested that his dish could “lower global warming” due to its environmentally-friendly ingredients, which included mushrooms, bell peppers, tomatoes, rice, oil, and other vegetables. The protein source, seitan (made from wheat gluten), further added to the dish’s uniqueness.
The Rap Dacta eventually triumphed over his competitors with his creative culinary skills.
Expressing his gratitude, Okyeame Kwame encouraged Ghanaians to embrace his vegan dish, emphasizing its health benefits.
Gilbert Aggrey, Deputy CEO of GTA, known as Abeiku Santana, commended Okyeame Kwame, not only for his fame but for his understanding of gastronomy tourism. He highlighted Okyeame Kwame’s culinary artistry, particularly his presentation, where he used cucumber to garnish the dish and created a design with his initials, “OK.”
Abeiku Santana also praised the musician for linking his dish to climate change and the relationship between humans and animals, making the presentation meaningful.
He congratulated Okyeame Kwame for emerging as the winner of the competition.
