Mystery as eerie black rings appear in the sky https://www.adomonline.com/mystery-eerie-black-rings-appear-sky/ Tue, 01 Aug 2017 07:34:42 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=350041 Mystery surrounds an epidemic of sinister black smoke rings that have been forming in the sky across the world.
The freaky phenomenon dubbed as “smoke vortexes” have been appearing in remote spots in Russia’s Siberia and the American Midwest — with the latest one being spotted in the UK.
The surreal sight is straight out of the 2016 film Arrival where visiting aliens use the circles to communicate, reports The Sun.
Kimberley Robinson, 22, was driving down the M62 near Birkenshaw with her boyfriend Danny Cooper, 26, when they noticed the creepy black mark in the sky.
Full-time mum Miss Robinson described the circle as “the weirdest thing I have ever seen”.
She said: “Me and my boyfriend were driving today and noticed a black flying ring in the sky.
“It looked a bit smoky but the shape was a solid ring.
“We hadn’t ever seen anything like this before do we have looked into it and no one knows what it is.”
West Yorkshire Fire Service say there had been no reports of fire at the time of the sighting on Sunday just after 1.30pm.
Another bizarre ring was spotted in Missouri, in the US, the day before.
But police believe it must have been caused by some sort of firework.

Others believe the strange rings are evidence of alien ships visiting our planet.
In April another sighting spooked out shoppers in a Siberian Mall shopping centre, with some fearful it was some sort of doomsday warning.
One social media said: “It’s a kind of supernatural power flying across the city!”
But UFO investigator Nick Pope has another, more down-to-earth explanation.
He said: “Despite exotic theories about UFOs, aliens, or portals to other dimensions, I believe there’s a decidedly down-to-earth explanation here.
“A so-called smoke vortex can arise when you have a blast through a circular structure like a smokestack.
“So these weird effects can be caused by accident — or indeed by design.
“On this latter point, they can be created as a sort of pyrotechnic effect and it would be interesting to know if there were any outdoor festivals being held in the area concerned.”

Health Ministry raises alert over ‘strange disease’ in Liberia https://www.adomonline.com/health-ministry-raises-alert-strange-disease-liberia/ https://www.adomonline.com/health-ministry-raises-alert-strange-disease-liberia/#comments Fri, 23 Jun 2017 06:18:16 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=215201 The Ministry of Health has issued a health alert over what says is a “strange disease” that has claimed the lives of eleven people in Liberia.

The Ministry says it received information from the West African country that at least nine others have been infected by the disease.

“The symptoms reported by the victims mainly are headache, weakness, diarrhoea, vomiting, mental confusion, abdominal pain and fever.

“The Ministry has been advised to increase surveillance at all levels to prevent importation of the strange disease,” the Ministry said in a communiqué
The unexplained illness has since April 23, 2017 claimed the lives of several people, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said.

About 28 people were taken ill, including an unknown number of children in Liberia’s Sinoe County.

The strange disease is said to have caught the attention of Liberia’s health authorities after an 11-year-old was admitted to a hospital April 23.

The child had diarrhoea and vomiting and was confused after attending the funeral of a religious leader the previous day, the WHO said.

Chinese school’s football field has a tree growing in the middle of it https://www.adomonline.com/chinese-schools-football-field-tree-growing-middle/ Mon, 05 Jun 2017 08:16:42 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=153511 Students at Beijing’s Yucai High School have to be very careful when playing football on the school’s well-maintained field.

That’s because it has a 100-year-old tree growing smack in the middle of it, and keeping their eye on the ball too much can result in a painful collision.

Building a football field around a tree sounds pretty stupid, but it’s not like the Chinese school had a choice. Yucai High School is reportedly surrounded by various historical buildings, and this was the only available space for a football field.

Before starting work on site, the school did ask permission to have the tree transplanted someplace else, but they were notified that it was hundreds of years old, and considered a national treasure. Having it transplanted was considered too risky, so they were left with no choice but to build the field around it.

Interestingly, Yucai High School is built on the grounds of Beijing’s legendary Royal Gardens of the Minq and Qing dynasties, and a reporter for the Beijing News claims that the strangely-located elm tree is the oldest tree in the Chinese capital.

I have not been able to verify that information, as other sources cite the age of the tree at only 100 years.

Playing a serious game of football on this field must be very frustrating, with long passes getting “intercepted” by the tree’s branches, and short ones getting deflected by its trunk, but, luckily for the students, they only have to train on it. Official matches in inter-school competitions are played at a different venue.

Photos of the Yucai High School football field, with its now-famous tree dead in the center, first started showing up online in the early 2000s, drawing all kinds of humorous comments on social media and news sites, but as people learned about the unique circumstances of the unusual arrangement, (most of) the jokes stopped.

The school certainly doesn’t mind people laughing at its expense, in fact, they consider the ancient tree as a symbol of their institution.
