The trailer, with a foreign registration number, 6759 AM, is said to be conveying a container from Accra to the Northern part of Ghana, when the crash occurred.

Eyewitnesses account indicated that the victim, believed to be in his early twenties, rammed into the trailer after veering off his road.

Due to the small nature of the tricycle, it ended up under the trailer, and being ridden upon.

The pragya driver sustained major injuries while his tricycle was damaged beyond repairs.

The front part of the trailer was also damaged. No casualty was recorded from that side.

The Ghana National Fire Service salvaged the situation ad transported the victim to the St.Josph’s Catholic Hospital at Nkwanta for treatment.

‘Pragya’ has killed our business – Taxi drivers bemoan https://www.adomonline.com/pragya-has-killed-our-business-taxi-drivers-bemoan/ Thu, 18 Nov 2021 18:08:57 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2046055 Drivers at Brekum, a suburb of the Bono Region, say the introduction of tricycles (Pragya) has destroyed their taxi business in the region.

Their comments come at a time calls are being made to the government to legalise the operations of Pragya.

The latest to add his voice is Member of Parliament for Cape Coast North, Dr Kwamena Minta Nyarku.

He said the reduced rate in crimes and violence is as a result of the pragya business, adding that “Pragya has come to stay in the country.”

While the pragya drivers have argued that the intervention of the tricycle is timely and a saviour to the unemployment rate, taxi drivers say it is an impediment to their sales.

Some taxi drivers, who shared their grievances on Adom TV, said they have lost passengers to pragya drivers who charge less.

‘’ …Because of the introduction of Pragya some passengers want to pay any amount they want,’’ a taxi driver revealed.

Another commented, “Because we are all at the taxi station we don’t get enough money because of the number of times one will work.

‘’Because of ‘Pragya’ people don’t chatter taxi as dropping as they used to, unless the person has a huge load,’’ another chipped in.

They urged the government to do something about their current situation as taxi drivers in the country.

Some passengers confirmed the comments of the taxi drivers, but they argued that times are hard and cheaper option is the first choice.

‘’Pragya is affordable as compared to the price of taxi. There’s enough fresh air in Pragya as compared to taxi,’’ a passenger told Adom TV.

Coronavirus: ‘Pragya’ drivers hot! https://www.adomonline.com/coronavirus-pragya-drivers-hot/ Thu, 28 Jan 2021 15:23:26 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1911797 The Kenyasi Police Division in the Asutifi North District of Ahafo Region has cautioned rickshaw (Pragya) operators to comply with Covid-19 safety protocols.

During an engagement with some 95 rickshaw operators at Kenyasi, Chief Inspector Akowuah Sankara, said the operators are entitled to take just two passengers instead of three.

This direction, according to him, will help observe social distancing, one of many Covid-19 safety protocols.

Chief Inspector Sankara said due to difficulty in accessing news on Covid-19, the police found it urgent to have an interaction with the rickshaw operators.

He said any operator caught flouting the safety protocols would be dealt with according to sanctions as prescribed by the law.

“Any rickshaw operator we sight not wearing facemask will be arrested. If you allow a passenger without facemask to sit in the vehicle, we will arrest you,” he said.

Meanwhile, some rickshaw operators, who spoke to Adom News, said they will comply with the directives given by the police although it may not be in their favour.

“Should there be a lockdown, we will not be able to operate and be able to take care of our families so we will observe the safety protocols,” they added.

According to them, they will serve as watchdogs and form a taskforce to report colleagues who flout the Covid-19 safety protocols.

The Ghana Health Service, in its report, says Ghana has seen a surge in the number of Covid-19 cases recorded.

According to the report, all 16 regions in the country have registered active Covid-19 cases.
