The incident occurred on Sunday, December 15, 2024, when a group of mourners was stopped at a routine police checkpoint.

Tensions escalated when one of the mourners allegedly insulted a female officer, leading to a call for backup. Constable Kennedy Ofori Boateng was among the responding officers.

The situation further deteriorated when the mourners attacked and tried to disarm one of the officers.

In the ensuing struggle, Constable Kennedy was accidentally shot in the abdomen.

He was rushed to a nearby health center but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries.

The family expressed their distress, stating that despite the incident happening in the morning, they were only notified late in the evening by a police officer who mistakenly claimed that Kennedy’s death was election-related violence.

However, videos circulation online of the circumstances leading to his death suggest otherwise.

To date, the family has not received any formal communication or support from the Ghana Police Service, and they have yet to see Kennedy’s body since Sunday.

The family is demanding an official statement from the Police and accountability for the tragic incident.

Ex-police officer exposed for secretly marrying three women https://www.adomonline.com/ex-police-officer-exposed-for-secretly-marrying-three-women/ Tue, 26 Nov 2024 15:39:04 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2475913 Jaison Muvevi, a former police officer turned gold miner, has revealed shocking details about his personal life while in solitary confinement.

Muvevi, who is facing four counts of murder and one of attempted murder for incidents that occurred between November 2022 and January 2023, confessed to being secretly married to three women, none of whom were aware of each other.

He explained that he customarily married all three women and fulfilled his traditional obligations for each.

Muvevi maintained three separate households: one in Zvishavane with a wife and three children, another in Kadoma with a wife and two children, and a third in Harare with a wife and two children.

Despite the logistical challenges, he claimed that his work as a gold miner provided the perfect cover for his absences, allowing him to keep the women unaware of one another’s existence. With a chuckle, he recounted how he successfully balanced his three lives without arousing suspicion.

One of Muvevi’s wives, who met him in 2016 after he had retired from the police force, described him as a calm and non-violent man. She noted that in 2022, he abruptly left their home, which she dismissed at the time as part of his work routine.

She has continued to attend his court sessions and visit him in prison, although it remains unclear how the wives feel about his revelations.

Muvevi’s criminal charges stem from alleged killings linked to his activities as a gold miner, which have led to his detention and mental health evaluation.

Despite the legal battles, he claims that his wives and brothers still support him with visits to the prison. His confession about his triple life adds a deeply personal twist to a case already filled with controversy and tragedy.

The Police have said that the interdiction is an immediate step to facilitate a thorough investigation into the officer’s conduct, in line with its regulations.

Additionally, Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, according to the statement, has reached out to the victim’s family, assuring them of the necessary support.

The IGP has directed the Savannah Regional Police Commander to collaborate with the family to ensure the matter is addressed appropriately.

The Police reaffirmed their commitment to upholding professionalism and accountability within the Service.

Woman becomes Police officer to catch her father’s killer, arrests him 25 years later https://www.adomonline.com/woman-becomes-police-officer-to-catch-her-fathers-killer-arrests-him-25-years-later/ Thu, 17 Oct 2024 18:07:29 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2461459 A Brazilian woman who dedicated her life to catching her father‘s killer managed to finally bring her family peace by catching the runaway criminal to face justice 25 years after the murder.

On February 16, 1999, Givaldo José Vicente de Deus was shot and killed after a heated argument at a bar in the Brazilian city of Boa Vista.

He had gotten into an argument with one Raimundo Alves Gomes over a debt of 150 Brazilian reals (the equivalent of $29 in 1999) that Givaldo reportedly owed Gomes.

At one point, the latter walked out of the bar for a few minutes, then came back in with a gun and shot the father-of-five in the head at point-blank.

Gomes fled the scene and although an arrest warrant was issued in his name, he was never caught.

Givaldo’s grieving family never gave up hope of bringing his killer to justice, and his eldest daughter, who was only nine at the time of his death, dedicated her life to catching Gomes.

“Gomes left behind a broken family, with five children, and our mothers had to fight hard to raise us. This event could have led us down other paths, but our mothers always taught us to follow the right path,” Gislayne Silva de Deus told Brazilian news outlet Nova1.

As the eldest of five children, Gislayne had to help her mother take care of her younger siblings and also do chores around the house, but she never neglected her studies.

Her father had always encouraged her to study hard and was always ready to help her with her homework, and she didn’t want to disappoint him.

She put in the work and dreamed of one day bringing closure to her entire family by catching her father’s killer.

At age 18, after graduating high school, Gislayne was accepted into law school and became a licensed lawyer seven years later.

However, in 2022, she gave up on her law career in order to become a police officer, and two years later, on July 19, 2024, she passed the exam and was officially appointed as a State Police investigator.

She immediately requested a position in the Homicide Division, which gave her an opportunity to pursue Raimundo Alves Gomes.

In 2013, Gomes was sentenced to 12 years in prison for the killing of Givaldo José Vicente de Deus, but since he had never been apprehended after the crime, the sentence was never carried out.

His lawyers appealed the decision in 2014 and 2015, but both appeals were rejected by the High Court of Justice.

The most recent arrest warrant for Gomez was issued in 2019, so the statute of limitations runs out in 2031, meaning that the faster Gislayne could find Gomes, the more time he would have to spend behind bars.

On September 25, just two months into her career as a police officer, Gislayne Silva de Deus fulfilled her dream of bringing her father’s killer to justice, after a long 25 years.

She and her team found him hiding on a farm in the Nova Cidade region near Boa Vista and arrested him.

“When I saw him at the police station, I made a point of telling him who I was and that I had been responsible for carrying out the arrest warrant,” Silva de Deus said.

“I shared the news with my family, and everyone felt a great sense of peace and justice. We waited a long time, and even though we were in disbelief, we managed to reach this moment. I cried with relief because after so long, it felt like a huge weight had been lifted off my shoulders.”

Gislayne’s story and her dedication to honouring her father and bringing her family peace touched the hearts of millions in Brazil and the whole of South America since the news was first reported last month.

US police officer charged with fatally shooting pregnant woman https://www.adomonline.com/us-police-officer-charged-with-fatally-shooting-pregnant-woman/ Wed, 14 Aug 2024 01:35:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2433512 A police officer accused of shooting a pregnant woman in Ohio has been charged with her murder.

Ta’Kiya Young, 21, was around 25 weeks pregnant at the time of her death last August. Her unborn daughter also died in the police shooting.

On Tuesday, a grand jury in the city of Columbus found sufficient evidence to file charges against Blendon Township police officer Connor Grubb for murder, involuntary manslaughter and assault.

Bodycam video of the fatal encounter released last year showed police attempting to stop Ms Young from driving away so they could question her about alleged shoplifting.

In the video she appeared to drive toward the officer who fired the fatal shot as he commanded her to exit the car.

Ms Young was suspected of shoplifting alcohol from a Kroger grocery store, investigators say.

Lawyers for Mr Grubb said he fired in self-defence.

“When viewed through the eyes of a reasonable police officer, the evidence will show that our client’s actions were justified, when there is video evidence that Officer Grubb was being hit by a moving vehicle,” said his lawyers Mark Collins and Kaitlyn Stephens.

The local chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) labour union on Tuesday slammed the indictment as “politically motivated”.

“We stand firm in advocating for an impartial justice system that focuses on truth and facts, not politics,” said chapter president Brian Steel.

“Like all law enforcement officers, Officer Grubb had to make a split-second decision, a reality all too familiar for those who serve to protect our communities,” he also said, adding decisions are often made under “extreme pressure and often in life-threatening situations”.

Blendon Township Police Chief John Belford said in a video statement that it was immediately beginning a disciplinary process where it would review the facts and then decide the best course of action against the officer.

“I want to be very clear: We’re not passing any judgment on whether Officer Grubb acted properly. We haven’t seen the evidence,” Chief Belford said.

Ms Young’s grandmother, Nadine Young, told CBS News that the past year has been very difficult for the family, including Ms Young’s two young sons.

“It’s been agony, it’s been like a whirlwind of hurt and pain,” she said.

Video from the 24 August 2023 encounter shows the two officers speaking with Ms Young for about one minute before the shot is fired.

Both officers were in the car park for an unrelated call.

Ms Young was the mother of two boys, aged six and three. She was due to give birth in November.

Court remands police officer, KNUST student accused of rape https://www.adomonline.com/court-remands-police-officer-knust-student-accused-of-rape/ Fri, 29 Jul 2022 11:47:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2143483 The Asokore Mampong District court has remanded a police officer, Lance Corporal Frank Adu Poku and a final year student of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Joel Osei Owusu, for allegedly raping a first-year student of the university.

The head of the Ashanti Regional legal and prosecutions unit, ACP Kofi Blagodzi, disclosed to Citi News that the police officer involved has been interdicted by the police administration.

The two persons-the police officer and the KNUST final year student, have been charged with two counts; conspiracy to commit rape and rape.

According to the police’s charge sheet, the two persons last week Tuesday, 19th July 2022 took turns and forcibly raped the first-year student at a hostel at Bomso.

Appearing before the Asokore Mampong District court, the prosecutor, ACP Kofi Blagodzi said the alleged victim, who deals in ladies’ clothing displayed some of the items on the internet for sale.

He said the final year student upon seeing the advert contacted her and assured her of having similar ones which he wants to supply to her for which she could make more profit.

The complainant then agreed to meet him, and he led her to his room under the pretext of showing her the clothes, but suddenly locked the door and put the key into his pocket.

According to the prosecutor, ACP Kofi Blagodzi, the final year student then told the “victim” that he is a scammer and that he will only let her leave the room after she undresses for him to take pictures and a video of her nakedness to be sent to his business partner abroad for money out of which the complainant will have 30% share.

Out of fear, the complainant told the police that she reluctantly obliged and removed her clothes where the final year student took pictures and videos of her nudity and she was further compelled to recite some words which the first accused person sent to his partner for the payment of the money.

The complainant further told the police that the final year student, who is the first accused person, ordered her to perform oral sex on him which was videoed and then went ahead to have unprotected sex with her.

After satisfying himself, he then went out of the room, locked the door but returned with the second accused person, the police officer who was armed with a pistol who he introduced as his friend and business partner.

The final year student left the room locked, as it was left with the complainant and the police officer, who also took his turn in having sexual intercourse with her.

After the police officer had also forcibly had sex with the complainant, the first accused person then returned to the room and forcefully administered LYDIA contraceptive pills to the complainant in order to prevent any unwanted pregnancy, after which the complainant was sent out of the room, traumatized.

The “victim” went home and later confided in the University authorities (at KNUST) who decided to report to the police on 21st July 2022.

On 22nd July 2022, KNUST authorities arrested the final year student and handed him over to the police.

The police say in his investigations caution statement, the final year student admitted the offence and mentioned the police officer as his accomplice who was arrested the same day.

Appearing before the Asokore Mampong District court, the court remanded the two persons, as they are supposed to reappear before it on 9th August 2022.

ACP Kofi Blagodzi said the police are liaising with the authorities of KNUST to offer psychological support to the victim.

He also noted that the police administration will not shield any officer who “commits such an act”.

The bizarre incident occurred at a shopping Centre where police officer, Makomborero Mazowe was spending quality time with his lover, Cindy Vhutuza.

She revealed that Vhutuza died during a hand job after she refused to have intercourse with him until they had both been tested for HIV.

Cindy said in the heat of the romp, the police officer started making weird noises, and before she knew, he was dead in no time.

Vhutuza claimed that she had no idea that Mazowe was married and only discovered his actual marital status after his death.

Married Police Officer Dies While Being Intimate With Lover In Car Park

In an interview with daily tabloid H-Metro, Vhutuza said:

“I experienced a terrible situation with Mazowe. We spent the better part of the day talking and listening to music. We had no money, so I collected dried ground nuts and watermelon, and that was that.

“I was behind the wheel when we parked the car at the shops close to a police station.  Mazowe wanted to have sex with me, but I refused, arguing that we had to go for HIV testing first. He insisted, saying he was too turned on and opted to find relief through a hand job.

“I assisted him, but he never discharged. Instead, he got into a trance as if he was having sex and produced an unfamiliar sound. I became frightened and called for help from a passer-by. I sought help from a licensed driver to take us to a doctor, but we did not get one.”

She went on to say that she is struggling to cope with the incident.

“I am emotionally spent and struggling to accept how my love ended in such a way.”

The police also confirmed the death of Mazowe. Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident saying,

“Police are investigating the death of a police officer in Chitungwiza. The deceased was in the company of a woman in a parked car at Chirunga Business Centre.”

Policeman shoots knifeman dead after he stabbed colleague https://www.adomonline.com/policeman-shoots-knifeman-dead-after-he-stabbed-colleague/ Tue, 09 Nov 2021 20:23:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2041231 A semi-naked knifeman has stabbed a police officer in the streets of Oslo before being shot dead by cops – a year after he committed the same crime and was sectioned.

Police initially suggested that passers-by had been wounded, but later said that only one police officer was slightly hurt.

Footage showed a police patrol car driving into a building in the Bislett neighbourhood of northern Oslo to stop the man.

The semi-naked man, thought to be in his 30s, then attacked the vehicles and managed to open the car door before being shot, police spokesman Torgeir Brenden said.

‘Several shots’ were fired at the man, he added, without specifying whether it was the police officers in the car who opened fire. Brenden said the perpetrator was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died.

The knifeman was convicted in December 2020 for another semi-naked knife attack in Grunerlokka, Oslo, and was sectioned for compulsory mental health care.

Norwegian media today published footage of the alleged attacker, naked from the waist up and wielding a knife.

‘We have so far no information that this is terror-related,’ Senior Police Chief Egil Joergen Brekke told a news conference.

‘To us, this appears to be a stand-alone act, so that there is no reason to fear for the safety of the city for others. This is a person who is known to us in the past and who has a history,’ Brekke told reporters.

The first reports to the police shortly before 9 am were about a man with a knife running after another person, Brekke said.

A nearby patrol car in the Bislett neighborhood of northern Oslo rushed to the scene and first tried to stop the man by running him down before it drove into a building between a flower shop and a cafe to halt the man’s progress.

The man managed to open the car door before ‘several shots’ were fired.  Norwegian media said up to six shots were heard, citing witnesses.

Brekke could not give detailed information, saying the Norwegian Bureau for the Investigation of Police Affairs is probing the events – which is customary in Norway when police officers use firearms.

‘To my knowledge, there are no other injured,’ Brekke, the police chief, said. Norway police chief says there is no indication of terrorist attack.

A semi-naked knifeman (pictured) has stabbed multiple people in the streets of Oslo before being shot dead by police - a year after he committed the same crime and was sectioned

A man reportedly armed with a knife attacked passers-by on the streets of the Norwegian capital, Oslo, on Tuesday, before being shot dead by police, officials said (pictured, police at the scene)Police officers cover the police car that was involved in the attack in Norway's capital, Oslo, on Tuesday+5

The attacker was convicted over a similar semi-naked June 4, 2019 rampage where they stabbed a passer-by several times in the upper body. He had reportedly set fire to his clothes before charging five people with a knife.

The victim resisted and was aided by passersby who distracted the knifeman, helping the man survive the brutal attack.

The attacker, who reportedly shouted ‘allahu akbar’ during the 2019 assault, was shot by police with a stun gun as he was arrested.

At trial, court-appointed mental health experts disagreed over whether he suffered from paranoid schizophrenia or drug-induced psychosis, but both the prosecution and the defence agreed he should be sectioned to compulsory mental healthcare.

Man in court for biting police officer at fuel station https://www.adomonline.com/__trashed-115/ Thu, 07 Oct 2021 09:47:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2025239 A city motorist who was arrested for being in an altercation with a petrol station security guard before biting a police officer has denied the charges.

This was after he was told to park his vehicle aside in order to minimise the traffic jam at the entrance of the petrol station.

Evans Matundura appeared before Kibera Law Courts’ Senior Principal Magistrate Philip Mutua where he was charged with an offence of assault against Police Constable John Anyosa Ogweno.

The court learned that the incident took place on September 23, 2021, at Ola Petrol station along Limuru Road Parklands within Nairobi Westlands. Matundura was also accused of personating a police officer contrary to the law.

That day at about 1:00 pm, Matundura was driving within the petrol station when he suddenly caused traffic jam.

One of the security guards approached him with a request to park his vehicle aside in order to allow other motorists to get fueled easily.

He then parked his vehicle aside and went to confront the guard asking her if she knew that he was a police officer.

He then started an argument that attracted more public attention including three police officers who were in civilian clothes.

Ogweno was among the cops present and they interrogated Matundura on his workstation and number. He gave out a four-digit number as opposed to the six-digit police number saying he was officer Rono attached at the Rongai police station.

He was asked to identify himself by presenting his certificate of appointment but he failed to do so. He resisted arrest when Ogweno and his colleagues tried to handcuff him and, in the process, he ended up biting Ogweno causing him harmful injuries.

The officers however managed to arrest him and escorted him to the Parklands police station before being arraigned. The case shall be mentioned on October 12 for further directions.

Policeman confesses to numerous murders in suicide note https://www.adomonline.com/policeman-confesses-to-numerous-murders-in-suicide-note/ Fri, 01 Oct 2021 18:52:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2023047 A former police officer has been identified as one of France’s most notorious wanted serial killers after he pointed to his guilt in a suicide note.

François Vérove, a father-of-two, who died aged 59 after retiring from the Parisian police force, was found in a rented flat in the Mediterranean seaside resort of Le Grau-du-Roi on Wednesday.

In a letter found at the scene, he is said to have confessed to having been gripped by ‘past impulses’ which he claimed he brought ‘under control’.

According to French newspaper Le Parisien, the note ended: “I admit to being a major criminal who committed unforgivable deeds until the end of the 1990s.”

DNA evidence then matched Vérove with traces picked up at the scenes of several horrific unsolved crimes committed in the 1980s and 1990s.

They include the rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl, Cécile Bloch, in her apartment block in outer Paris in 1986, and the strangling to death of a couple in the city’s trendy central district of Le Marais.

At least five unsolved murders were linked to a suspect known only as Le Grêlé (‘the man with the pockmarked face’) after a sketch based on witness statements showed an acne-ridden male in his mid-twenties.

Vérove may have recently grown to suspect cold case detectives were finally starting to crack the case.

Fran?ois Verove Police officer admits being one of France's most notorious rapists and serial killers
It’s thought Vérove was involved in local politics in his town after retiring from policing work

Evidence had pointed to the suspected killer being part of the Gendarmerie – armed military officers responsible for some aspects of law enforcement – in which the 59-year-old served before he became a police officer.

Investigators recently sent letters to 750 gendarmes who were stationed in the Paris region at the time of the murders – including Vérove.

He was summoned to give a DNA sample on September 24 but was reported missing by his wife three days later.

Vérove is now suspected of committing four murders and six rapes, including the 1994 killing of 19-year-old Karine Leroy in Meaux, east of Paris.

Fran?ois Verove Police officer admits being one of France's most notorious rapists and serial killers
Vérove’s neighbours said they were stunned by the revelation, while his family refused to comment

In his suicide note, he blamed his crimes on childhood problems and claimed he lost the urge to kill after meeting his wife and having kids, police sources told another local newspaper, Le Midi.

He is said to have written that he wanted to take his own life to protect his family from the blowback surrounding his crimes.

A lawyer representing the families thanked police but said there will undoubtedly be more.

Neighbours in La Grande-Motte – a town 15 minutes from where Vérove was found dead – said they were ‘lost for words’ at the revelation.

One told Le Parisien: ‘We used to chat over the wall separating our gardens. François was a sturdy bloke, very tall. He was helpful as anything.

“He would come round often to fix my wife’s computer. He’d get it sorted in a few minutes. This story is just unbelievable.”

Other locals known to Vérove said he always sported a beard, leaving no hint of the pockmarked face seen in the national press.

Meanwhile, his daughter, who has not been named, told Le Midi: ‘My mother was not aware of anything, we have nothing to say.’

It is the story of how the uniform of a policeman on traffic duties was not enough to scare off three phone-snatching robbers.

A video currently making rounds on social media has captured the moment when the three robbers on a motorbike snatched a police officer’s phone.

Seconds before the robbery, the policeman could be seen engaging in a conversation with a caller, only for the criminals to snatch his phone in a Hollywood movie-style.

The video shows that the police whose concentration was on another motorbike that had crossed a red light into an intersection of a roundabout was visibly bewildered by the share bravado of the criminals as he stood helplessly in surprise.

The phone-snatching trio saw the police officer’s lack of concentration as an opportunity to strike, and upon riding close to him, launched their God-forsaken attack.

The robber seated at the very end of the motorbike snatched the phone while the middle man alerted the rider to speed off.

The distraught police officer stopped another motorbike, perhaps with the intention of chasing the criminals but the video ended without before that scene could unfold.

He could be seen making a call on his walkie-talkie to alert colleagues to be on the lookout for the thieves.

However, the court presided over by Justice Felix Datsomor found him guilty after trial which lasted close to three years and was convicted and sentenced to 30 months on the first count and three months in hard labour on the other count. The sentences would run concurrently.

Prosecuting, Police Chief Superintendent Akologo Yakubu Ayamga, told the court that, the complainant, Emmanuel Awuku, is an elder brother of the deceased, while the convict is a Policeman stationed at Kadjebi and formerly stationed at Tefle, Sogakope Police station.

Prosecution said on August 8, 2018, at about 7:30pm, the deceased was riding a motorbike with goods on it, and the convict, who was on duty at the Sogakope barrier upon seeing the deceased with the goods suspected them to have been smuggled.

Chief Supt. Ayamga said that the convict then chased the deceased with his motorbike with registration number M-17-AS737 on the Sogakope-Accra road, and on reaching Sogakope, the convict, who got close to the deceased used his leg to push the motorbike of the deceased.

He said the deceased then lost control of his bike and collided with another oncoming motorbike, resulting in an accident, which resulted in the deceased sustaining some head injuries and was rushed to the Sogakope hospital but died while on admission.

Prosecution said the convict after causing the harm, left the deceased and the other victim without attending to them and returned to his duty post at the barrier.

The prosecution said the case was reported to Sogakope police station for investigations and after a duplicate case docket was forwarded to the Attorney General’s (AG) Department, Ho, for advice based on which the convict was charged.

Angry police officer chases organisers for refund after losing at Takoradi’s Western Music Awards https://www.adomonline.com/angry-police-officer-chases-organisers-for-refund-after-losing-at-takoradis-western-music-awards/ Thu, 08 Oct 2020 10:54:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1864173 A Ghanaian police officer, who is also a musician, Rexford Osei Mensah, known in showbiz as Osei De King, has taken to social media to ask for a refund after he lost in the recent 2020 Western Music Awards which took place in Takoradi in the Western Region.

The music ceremony was officially organised to celebrate the efforts of both emerging musicians and cemented ones in the region but the police officer in his post said he wasn’t treated fairly.

According to him, he won wholly in the category he was nominated in but the award organisers chose another winner forgoing the money he used in voting for himself.

Last Saturday on Kingdom FM, a Takoradi-based radio Station, Osei De King called on the organisers to explain why he couldn’t win the ‘Highlife Song of the Year’ category with his song ‘Pilolo.’

He has since provided a screenshot to Adomonline.com indicating how much he voted, and the numbers he got which he claimed topped contestants in the category, hence was surprised to have lost to another musician Qwesi Flex, who got lower votes than him with his song ‘Chop Life’.

MORE:

A vote costs 50 pesewas and I had 3,627 votes which amount to GH¢1,813.50ps. Qwesi Flex had 680 votes which amount to GH¢340. So assuming the whole six-member board voted for Qwesi Flex which is impossible, how on earth would someone who accumulated a 340 Cedis vote win at the expense of someone who had invested 1,813 Cedis into the event? [SIC] He queried.

He has also requested for an intensive data system of how the vote was conducted, and why he could lose to someone he had more votes than otherwise he would resort to the court of law.

Below is a screenshot showing the money invested in voting:

Police officer assaults man for refusing to lick his urine [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/police-officer-assaults-man-for-refusing-to-lick-his-urine-video/ Wed, 27 May 2020 12:49:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1801082 A video which captured moment a police officer asked a Black driver to lick his own urine in Illinois, has gone viral after being shared online.

The driver, a former federal safety investigator identified as Marcus Mosley, was tased and arrested last year after being accused of urinating on the side of a road in Illinois.

In the video, which was recorded by police body worn camera on May 17, 2019, the Defendant Lynwood Police Officer Luke Tambrini told Mr Mosley he wasn’t allowed to park on the side of the road or to urinate in public and asked for his identification.

After Mosley denied that he urinated in public, Tambrini conducted what the lawsuit calls a “sham field investigation” during which Mr Mosley was subjected to “a willful and wanton display of outrageously inhuman cruelty.”

Officer Tambrini first asked Mr Mosley to take his finger and touch a “little puddle of water” beside his car that he claimed was urine, the video shows. After Mr Mosley obliged, Officer Tambrini replied, “Now lick it.”

“Who’s gonna lick dirt?” Mosley replied, visibly upset. “You think ‘cause I’m black I’m gonna sit here and touch some dirt, then lick it?” Mr Mosley then requested that the officer call a supervisor to the scene because he had a problem with how he was being treated.

When Officer Tambrini told Mr Mosley he was going to write him tickets for parking illegally and urinating in public, Mr Mosley declined to provide him his name and information and repeatedly asked that a supervisor be dispatched to the scene, according to the video.

Eventually, Officer Tambrini said he was going to have to arrest Mr Mosley for obstructing identification and “needlessly escalated the situation by drawing, pointing, and shooting a Taser” at Mr Mosley, according to the suit.

The video shows Mr Mosley stumbling as he’s being stunned, repeatedly asking for a supervisor and saying he hadn’t done anything wrong. The officer can be heard commanding his K9, which had been waiting inside his vehicle, to attack Mr Mosley.

“Please don’t have that dog bite me,” Mr Mosley can be heard saying, as the dog attacks him and he’s taken to the ground.

Mr Mosley was hospitalised with bites to his left arm and shoulder that punctured the skin and continues to suffer physical and emotional trauma from the attack, according to the suit.

He was subsequently charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, resisting a peace officer and obstructing a peace officer, among other things, the suit claims.

The 48-year-old Indiana resident, claims in a 12-count federal lawsuit filed last week that a white Lynwood police officer, Mr Tambrini concocted a bogus story about him urinating on the side of Glenwood Dyer Road as a pretext to harass him despite his having committed no crime or unlawful act.

Mayor Eugene Williams said through a village spokesman that he was “deeply disappointed” with the situation, but did not weigh in on the merits of Mr Mosley’s claims or his officers’ actions.

Female police officer collapses after mob attack in Tamale https://www.adomonline.com/female-police-officer-collapses-after-mob-attack-in-tamale/ Fri, 17 Apr 2020 20:39:50 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=1780707 A female police officer has gained consciousness after she blacked out following an attack by some residents of Changli, a suburb in the Tamale Metropolis of the Northern region.

ALSO READ:

The unnamed female officer had gone to the community with two other police officers, on April 16, to effect the arrest of a woman who was a suspect in a theft case under investigation.

According to the Northern Regional Crime Officer, Superintendent Otuo Acheampong, although the officers went to the area with a marked police van, the residents had no respect for them.

“They saw the woman and the woman called her son. Her son organised the people in the community who came, attacked the officers and assaulted them,” he told JoyNews’ Martina Bugri.

The injured police officer, he stated, is still on admission at the Tamale Teaching Hospital.

“This morning we got information that she is responding well to treatment,” he added.

Supt. Acheampong said that his team is on the move to investigate and arrest the people who attacked the officers.

He stated that the assault on the police in the area “is becoming one too many.” He disclosed that there have been cases where police attackers in the region have been tried in court and they are hoping to find these culprits as well.

Supt Acheampong said recent checks indicate that crime is on the low in the region.

However, he added that unreported crimes have been hard to investigate, especially when people in the community are unwilling to cooperate.

He said many people take matters into their own hands, either investigate or arrest the suspect, force confessions out of them and take their properties to make up what they allegedly stole.

“This is wrong. We want to encourage the people that the police are here (for them). Every criminal case should be reported to and investigated by the police. So we encourage people to come with their complaints. That’s why we are here,” he added.
