General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketia, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of sabotaging his bid to become National Chairman.

General Mosquito, as he is popularly known, has claimed NPP faithful are meddling in the affairs of his party as though it is their own election.

Speaking in an interview, the NDC Scribe stated he is convinced it is borne out of fear that he is the person who can match the NPP boot for boot.

“Most NPP people don’t want me to succeed as National Chairman because they know I’m the one who will match them boot for boot.

“They are trying everyway possible to see me fail but I know NDC delegates are discerning and will vote for someone who has the interest of the party at heart and will not trade it for anything,” he said in an interview on Accra-based Okay FM.

Detailing the qualities the NDC needs in its new leader, Mr Nketia maintained he is fit for purpose and ticks all the boxes.

“NDC needs a leader who cannot be bought; one who has been truthful with Ghanaians and can lead the party into victory and can mobilise. So NPP supporters cannot stand to watch me being declared as Chairman after Saturday,” he bragged.

Four NDC stalwarts will lock horns on Saturday, December 17, 2022, to contest for the National Chairman position.

They are the incumbent National Chairman, Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the incumbent General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketia; a former Greater Accra Regional Minister, Nii Armah Ashitey, and a former Deputy Minister of Works and Housing, Samuel Yaw Adusei.

But it seems to be a two-horse race for Mr Nketia and Ofosu-Ampofo as expectations are high for one of the duo to emerge victor at the Accra Sports Stadium.

With General Mosquito positive about snatching the seat, Mr Ofosu-Ampofo also believes he has done a good job over the years for delegates to retain him.

National Chairman Hopeful of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Asiedu Nketia, says he is unperturbed about former High Commissioner to UK, Victor Smith‘s decision not to support his bid.

To General Mosquito, there are a lot more people aside from the former Minister who are excited about his bid and will go all out to rally support for him.

Mr Nketia’s comment comes after Mr Smith disclosed the former is contesting for the Chairmanship position because his dream to be former President Mahama’s running mate in 2020 was shattered.

Ambassador Smith indicated he and other senior party figures, including former President Mahama, had advised Mr Nketia not to challenge the incumbent Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo for the position because doing so might cause needless conflict, but Mr Nketia refused to heed their advice.

He has, therefore, openly declared support for the re-election of Chairman Ofosu-Ampofo.

Reacting to the development, General Mosquito, who is poised for victory in the election scheduled for Saturday, said he doesn’t remember such a conversation with the NDC stalwart.

“Everyone has their own opinion and you decide whether to accept or reject them but I don’t remember he [Victor Smith] had that conversation with me and even if he did, it was my choice to take it or not because advice is like raw materials which inform personal decisions.

“So even if I listen to advise from my mother, friends or whoever, I know what is best for me which is the interest of the NDC and that is what I will stick to,” he said in an interview on Accra-based Okay FM.

Mr Nketia added he expects Mr Smith to keep whatever opinions he has about his Chairmanship bid to himself as his mind is already made up.

“If he calls himself my friend, people should judge from what he has said to understand the kind of friend he is,” he stated.

NDC Chairmanship: I’m not happy with happenings – John Boadu [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/ndc-chairmanship-im-not-happy-with-happenings-john-boadu-audio/ Tue, 13 Dec 2022 08:35:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2194418

Former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, says he is unhappy with events in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) with regards to the Chairmanship race.

The National Chairman position is anticipated to be a fierce contest between General Secretary, John Asiedu Nketia and Chairman Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo.

The election has been scheduled for Saturday, December 17, 2022, at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Already, there seems to be serious trouble between the camp of Mr Nketiah and the incumbent Mr Ofosu- Ampofo as the two are throwing “insults” against each other.

But Mr Boadu says he is worried the reputation of the party, respected across the country, stands to suffer under the current circumstances.

According to him, the development does not augur well for the NDC as the two are party bigwigs.

“It is unfortunate two stalwarts of the party are competing at this time because it will expose certain things that shouldn’t have come out into the public. It is painful.

“Because of personal interests, we tend to say a lot of things that should have been party secrets. I won’t rejoice because it is an NDC contest because it is scary and there are a lot of risks associated with the exposures they are given,” he said in an interview on Accra-based Okay FM.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo says the decision is politically incorrect and will advise General Mosquito, as he is popularly known, to put it on hold.

Speaking in an interview on Adom TV’s Sede3 3te3 nie, he stressed it was a wrong move for Mr Nketia to make in his political career.

“In my thinking, the General Secretary contesting me is not necessary. It is politically incorrect,” he said.

Mr Nketia is poised to unseat Mr Ofosu-Ampofo in the party’s national executives’ election scheduled for December 17, 2022.

After the NDC elections on Sunday, the former Adentan Member of Parliament(MP) shocked many after he snatched the seat from the incumbent, Ade Coker.

The former lawmaker polled 327 votes while Chairman Coker, who was optimistic about his re-election, polled 222 votes in the election held at the Tema Sports Stadium.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Moore stressed elections were underpinned by either victory or defeat.

He has, therefore, urged unity for the greater good of the NDC.

“I would want to congratulate all the aspirants and I have also called them because I need all of them on board because the greater goal is to ensure NDC captures power in 2024,” he said.

A defeated Chairman hopeful in the National Democratic Congress (NDC) regional election, Godfred Wumbei, has tagged himself as a political orphan.

Mr Wumbei claims there is a deliberate attempt by some unscrupulous people in the region to sabotage his political career.

However, they seem to be succeeding as he has no fighter.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Wumbei indicated late former President Jerry Rawlings was one person who always had his back.

“I have nobody and I need someone to adopt me so I can work tirelessly and die for the person,” he said.

This comes after suffering a defeat in the election held on Sunday, November 13, 2022.

It was Mr Wumbei’s second close time to victory but lost to one Ali Adolf John with less than 20 votes.

The winner was the acting Chairman following the death of Alhaji Ibrahim Mobila in August 2022.

He obtained 247 votes to beat his close contender, Wumbei Godfred who secured 236 votes. Alhaji Umar Faruk got nine votes, while Hassan Rufai Ahmed Velim had 93.

A defeated aspirant for the chairmanship position of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Northern Region, Godfred Wumbei, has said he will not accept the electoral results.

This, according to him, is because the results do not reflect reality.

The Chairmanship position was contested by four persons and after the voting on Sunday, Ali John Adolf emerged as the victor with 247 votes.

His close contender, Wumbei Godfred, pulled 236 votes while Alhaji Umar Farouk had nine votes, and Hassan Rufai Ahmed Vellim obtained 93.

The outcome sent a shock through Mr Wumbei’s veins, causing him to weep uncontrollably, demanding he is sworn in as the chairman.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem, Mr Wumbei stated a daylight robbery took place at the voting centre.

He claimed at the end of polls, he was leading by 11 votes which his agents confirmed but for reasons he cannot tell, his opponent was rather declared winner.

“I will never accept the defeat today or tomorrow. The total ballot vote cast was 591 for the Chairmanship position. The first had nine votes, the second had 236 votes, and I was 3rd with 247 votes.

“My agent came to tell me I had won but I later raised the person who had 236 was rather declared the winner,” he claimed.
