Vanderpuye, who has previously served as a Member of Parliament, is among several candidates being considered for the position, with Kofi Adams and Herbert Mensah also in the running.

Despite Vanderpuye’s past conflicts with Ghana FA officials during his tenure, Grusah believes his experience and expertise make him the best candidate to revitalize Ghanaian sports.

“Nii Lante Vanderpuye has already proven his capabilities, so I’m puzzled about what the NDC is waiting for,” he told Asempa FM’s Sports Nite.

“I recall that even under the NPP, former President Kufuor considered appointing him as Sports Minister, but internal party unrest prevented it.”

Grusah also highlighted Vanderpuye’s significant experience with Liberty Professionals, Hearts of Oak, and his background as a sports journalist as reasons why he is well-suited for the role.

“Since the NDC has returned to power, they should bring him back on board,” he added.

Ministry of Youth and Sports now Ministry of Sports and Recreation https://www.adomonline.com/ministry-of-youth-and-sports-now-ministry-of-sports-and-recreation/ Sun, 12 Jan 2025 08:29:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2491914 President John Mahama has officially renamed the Ministry of Youth and Sports to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation as part of a broader governmental restructuring effort.

The renaming, carried out under Section 11 (3) of the Civil Service Act, 1993 (P.N.D.C. Law 327), separates the previously combined sports and youth sectors into distinct ministries.

Consequently, the youth-focused arm will now operate independently as the Ministry of Youth Development and Empowerment.

This change is part of a streamlined approach that has reduced the total number of ministries to 23, down from the previous administration’s 30.

In related developments, President Mahama is expected to announce the appointment of a new Sports Minister in the coming week.

Former Sports Minister Nii Lantey Vanderpuije is rumored to be a strong contender for the role.
