It has been revealed that Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, is yet to approve a leave extension Dome Kwabena Member of Parliament (MP), Sarah Adwoa Safo requested.

The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, who announced this, stated the Speaker had earlier informed him he will not grant the request.

However, the Suame MP did not make known any reason for Mr Bagbin’s alleged decision.

“The Speaker notified me that he was not going to approve and so far as I am concerned, it has not been approved but I am sure if that is the case, Speaker will inform her through the same procedure she made her request,” he disclosed in an interview on Accra-based Neat FM.

The Majority Leader further indicated he does not know how the request will end as Miss Safo’s case is different.

“In any case, you are supposed to first write to the Speaker for your request to be granted before you travel but in Adwoa’s case, she travelled before bringing the letter,” he added.

The lawmaker has come under fire for neglecting her parliamentary duties amid speculations that she has vowed not to return until she is given a leadership role in the August House.

It emerged in October 2021 that President Nana Akufo-Addo has extended her leave of absence from office for the Gender Minister, madam Safo.

The MP’s leave, which she sought for personal reasons, was supposed to have ended on August 31, 2021.

But in another letter dated February 28, 2022, and addressed to Mr Bagbin with Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu copied, she is said to have requested a four-week extension.

GBC Director General asked to proceed on leave https://www.adomonline.com/gbc-director-general-asked-proceed-leave/ https://www.adomonline.com/gbc-director-general-asked-proceed-leave/#comments Tue, 16 Jan 2018 08:30:53 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=840771 The Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) Dr. Kwame Akuffo Anoff-Ntow has been asked to proceed on leave by the governing board of the state broadcaster.
The directive to Dr. Anoff-Ntow was issued Monday evening, according to a source with knowledge of the development.
He is in his 13th month as the Director General of the state broadcaster.
The directive, the source explained was because of the  Corporation’s unpopular resolve to prosecute people who will default in the payment of the mandatory Television license fee.
The TV licensing Act 1966 (NLCD 89) of Ghana mandates the collection of license fees from persons or households owning TV sets. The collection of the fee was reintroduced in 2015.
Domestic TV users are to pay between GH¢36 and GH¢60 for one or more TV sets in a household while TV set repairers and sales outlets are to pay an annual sum of between GHc60 to GHc240.
Commercial TV operators are to pay GHc36 per annum for each TV set.
The Chief Justice recently set up a special TV License Court to handle cases of defaulters.
The decision has courted huge public outcry with the majority declaring they will not pay leading to the governing board to intervene ordering the Corporation to halt its plans.
“Following an evaluation of the situation has instructed the management of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) not to pursue any activity or set of processes, leading to the prosecution of any individual for the non-payment of the Television license fee,” said the board when it made the order.

Don’t postpone leave – Workers advised https://www.adomonline.com/dont-postpone-leave-workers-advised/ Fri, 21 Jul 2017 05:20:26 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=316991 Workers have been advised to desist from trading off or postponing their annual leave so as to make some extra income.
Workers who escape their annual leaves are exposed to intense stress which sometimes results in preventable sicknesses and even death.
Mr Kojo Mattah, the Managing Director of ARB Apex Bank, gave the advice during a presentation titled: “Ministry, Leave and Retirement,” at the Global Evangelical Church Pastors and Spouses Association retreat held in the Volta Regional Capital, Ho.
The retreat which was on the theme: “Thy Kingdom Come, Living the Kingdom Life: Pastor and Family in Focus,” was attended by more than 600 Pastors and Spouses of the church.
Mr Mattah, a current Presbyter of the Church, said the importance of annual leave to the worker could not be overemphasised as it helped them to get out of the daily stress from their routine schedules, re-strategise to become more productive when they return to work.
He said, leave periods afforded the worker the period to relax and sleep better since there was no need to rush to work, close late or meet strict deadlines.
Mr Mattah, who is the President of the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ghana, said a number of children have had to cope with absentee parents due to the long hours they spent at their workplaces at the expense of their families.
He said annual leave helped one to “improve on your relationship with families and friends”.
Mr Mattah said the retirement should normally be seen as a period of rest from a long period of stress associated with work, but the reality on the ground was that, many retired persons were the poor, needy, and destitute who depended on their meager payment from the pension scheme which they often struggled every month to draw.
He, therefore, appealed to all to put the necessary retirement and investment plans in place while in active service in order to enjoy life even when they retire.
The retreat enabled the Pastors and their Spouses to receive health education, screening, teachings on Family Life, Prayer Life and also to donate assorted items to the Ho Central Prisons.
Reverend Emmanuel Barrigah, the Director of Church Life and Nurture who led the Daily Morning devotions at the retreat, appealed to the Pastors and their Spouses to live exemplary lives in their communities in order to reflect Christ.
He said for peace to prevail in the family, husbands must love their spouses, while their wives should submit to their husbands and parents, in general, should not provoke their children as stated in the Bible.
Rev Samuel Sovor, President of the Association, commended the members for their commitment to duty and their tireless efforts to take the Gospel of Christ to every nook and cranny of the country and beyond.
The President pledged the leadership’s commitment to the welfare of all members, assuring them of better conditions and God’s continuous blessings upon their lives.
