The solemn ceremony took place over the weekend at Ekwamkrom, a suburb of Swedru in the Central Region.

It was a difficult moment for family and loved ones as his mortal remains was laid in state for filing past.

The actor passed on on Thursday, September 16, 2021.

Kohwe was undergoing treatment after being down with stroke for some time before his demise.

In a press statement, the TV personality said he had no kinship ties with the late actor, describing media reports linking them as a family as being false.

Following the unfortunate and untimely demise of veteran actor Kofi Laing also known as Kohwe, certain falsehoods have been peddled by some media house about myself and my relationship with the deceased.

Among others, it has been alleged that he was my brother whom I neglected during his illness.

I would like to state categorically that, Kofi Laing was not my brother, neither was he related to me in any way.

Also, I had no financial or other obligations towards him. Neither does he possess shares in the school which is owned by my siblings and I, as has been alleged in other circles.

I would like to take this opportunity to extend my condolences to the family of Kofi Laing.

It is my hope that, some of the media houses currently engaged in the needless sensationalism would channel their efforts into celebrating the rich body of work Kofi left behind.

This comes days after the actor’s demise.

Mr Laing died on Thursday at his Accra residence aged 75.

He reportedly suffered a stroke and was undergoing treatment at Dr Power Herbal Clinic at Ashaiman Newtown junction, Tema.

In the video that has gone viral following his death, Kohwe was spotted with his colleague, Mr Beautiful who had paid him a visit.

Mr Beautiful handed over GHS 1,000 to Mr Laing which he indicated was from former President John Mahama.

He went on to unpack a box of mackerel, a bag of rice, and two gallons of Frytol oil which he brought along.

Ailing Kohwe, who was stunned by the kind gesture, said he was short of words and couldn’t thank Mr Mahama enough.

However, he noted it will be his greatest wish to meet Mr Mahama face-to-face.

Prior to his death, Kohwe, during an interview on Adom FM in 2019, called on all and sundry to come to his aid before his demise.

Mrs Owusu-Ekuful, who doubles as the Minister for Communications, has urged the latter to hold on, stating he matters to her.

Her message of hope comes after several months of complaint after the actor appealed for support from Ghanaians.

The actor, in an interview on Adom FM, said the conditions of veterans who worked hard to bring smiles to the faces of Ghanaians, are nothing to write home about.

Kohwe bemoaned some of his colleagues died as paupers in sorrow because there was no support for them.

Therefore, he said, Ghanaians should support him now and not wait till he is dead and gone before they do so.

He said he worked with the Foreign Affairs Ministry in 1965 and moved into cinematography years later.

When asked of his wealth acquired through comedy on Adom FM’s Work and Happiness show, he said “I cannot even boast of a car tyre despite my years of service with the Foreign Affairs Ministry as well as the film industry.”

According to Kohwe, he made very little from ‘Akan Drama’ series and the industry as a whole because his aim was to exhibit his talent but not to pursue wealth.

“Filming is something I do with passion, I don’t regret acting because I would have been dead by now as a result of sorrow and depression,” he said.

The 75-year-old actor appealed to the public for financial assistance as he is financially handicapped at the moment.
