The atmosphere was filled with excitement and patriotism as people of all ages and backgrounds gathered to celebrate their shared heritage.

At the Park, students embarked on a tour to explore objects that showcased Ghana’s rich history about Ghana’s first President Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, who led the fight to gain independence for Ghana.

It was all joy at the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park as a lot of people trooped in to have a feel of the beautiful sceneries and also enjoy themselves.

Families and friends enjoyed leisurely strolls through the Park’s beautiful gardens, taking in the beauty of the surroundings. Laughter and chatter filled the air as people shared moments of joy and togetherness.

Martha, a first time visitor to the Park expressed how excited she was to be with her family at the Museum. “It is a joyous moment and I am excited because I am here with my family. I heard of the Museum being renovated and I just needed a day to come see the place since I haven’t been here before. The day being Independence Day and a holiday as well is just a perfect day to see the renovation and also commemorate what our Osagyefo did for our country. I am really having a good time,” she added.

Food vendors who had a field day lined up at a designated place on the park to offer appealing delicacies. The aroma of the meals carried through the air, tempting taste buds and satisfying hungry appetites. Visitors from other parts of the country also joined in the festivities swaying to the rhythms.

“I am really enjoying myself right here inside the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. I will visit this colourful site over and over again. I just love Ghana, it is just an exciting place to be. The food, the hospitality, the music, the dance, just everything is lovely. I chose to come here today because I know Ghana is celebrating its 67th Independence Day and it is just worth it to explore right at the museum of the warrior who aided Ghana to gain independence.” Indriana, a German visitor at the Museum gladly said.

As the day progressed, in and outside the park grounds became a hub for entertainment. Music and dance from different angles of the Park got people moving to the tunes and rhythms. Some section of people also had their celebrations by the roadside in front of the Park.

“Whether in or out, it is all part of Nkrumah’s Museum. We are here with friends and we are also commemorating this special day on the streets. It is the Ayalolo health walk and we have walked on the streets right from Jamestown to this place.

“We will finally end it at the Independence Square. But while we are right in front of the Museum we want to feel our Osagyefo,” the Ayalolo group said and explained that they always dress like their forefathers on every 6th of March to remember the old school days.

Koforidua thrilled as Ghana marks 67 years of independence https://www.adomonline.com/koforidua-thrilled-as-ghana-marks-67-years-of-independence/ Wed, 06 Mar 2024 05:35:32 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2365581 With only hours to the climax of Ghana’s 67th Independence Day Anniversary, the festive atmosphere in Koforidua, the Eastern Regional capital, has spurred excitement for a memorable celebration.

Many of the residents see the occasion as an opportunity to showcase the rich cultural diversity, the people’s history, and the socioeconomic potential of one of Ghana’s serene urban areas.

Indeed, the stakes are high, given the Region’s crucial role in securing Ghana’s independence in 1957.

The region has most of the ‘Big Six’ icons who helped lead the country to independence.

Koforidua, founded in 1875, is noted for its tropical forests, cascading waterfalls, tourist attractions, and beautiful landscape.

Ahead of the anniversary celebration, the town has been adorned with the country’s red, yellow, and green flags at every visible corner, flying proudly in the bustling streets.

When the Ghana News Agency (GNA) visited the Koforidua Youth Resource Center on Tuesday, the venue for the anniversary programme, the place was decorated with national flags, memorable portraits of liberation fighters, and other historical scenes from the struggle for independence.

A team from Zoomlion Ghana Limited, a waste collection and management company, was also busy finishing preparations.

According to Faustina Shardey, the company’s Regional Coordinator, the authorities fumigated the entire Centre to help tidy it up.

On security, the National Security Council was also taking precautions to ensure public safety, with police personnel deployed at every vantage point.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) was also at work, bringing on board an array of fire tenders specifically for the programme.

Some traders were observed selling event paraphernalia and other souvenirs to enhance their livelihoods.

“It is a dream come true that we are hosting the national event of our independence anniversary, because the Region played no mean a role in advancing the nation’s cause for self-rule,” Baba Musa Mohammed, a Muslim cleric, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA), in an interview.

He lauded the government for its rotational policy in hosting the independence celebration and hoped that the Region would not disappoint.

Many schoolteachers, pupils, and students visited the Centre to feel the impending occasion.

In an interview, they expressed optimism about the Region’s hosting of the event.

Govt should organise an event like Global Citizen Festival every Independence Day – Bullgod https://www.adomonline.com/govt-should-organise-an-event-like-global-citizen-festival-every-independence-day-bullgod/ Fri, 30 Sep 2022 15:22:08 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2167439 Artiste manager and entertainment pundit, Bullgod, says an event like the just-ended Global Citizen Festival should be organised as an Independence Day event.

Speaking on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz, Bullgod said putting up an event like that should be considered the state’s contribution to the creative arts sector.

According to him, the event could go a long way to put monies into the pockets of creativity in the country.

“An event like this can be done on our independence day. I think that should be the state’s contribution to our space.”

Though Bullgod admits that organising such an event will incur a lot of cost and could burden the coffers of the state, he believes it will be worth it.

He stressed that allocating a budget for such an event should not be a problem since government on multiple occasions has invested heavily in other sectors in the past.

“All we need is some huge capital injection. Ghana should pay for it. What will it cost us? We go out there to take a lot of money for other projects and we can take a chunk of that money to do this.

“They should dedicate an amount of money to organise it every Independence Day.”

The Global Citizen Festival 2022 delivered one of the best shows Ghanaians have ever witnessed.

From stage design and sound to artistes’ craft and delivery, audiences both at the Black Star square and at home were enamoured by the event.

The event saw the likes of Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Gyakie, Yaw Tog, Kwesi Arthur, Oxlade, Tiwa Savage, Tems and Pheelz mount the stage to deliver electrifying performances on the night.

The night was also crowned by stunning performances from multiple-award-winning American superstar Usher, UK’s Stormzy as well as American R&B singer SZA.

Global Citizen raised $2.4 billion to end extreme poverty. Also, Canada and the European Commission committed $1.6 billion to the global fund to fight AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria.

Major roads in Cape Coast to be blocked on Independence Day https://www.adomonline.com/major-roads-in-cape-coast-to-be-blocked-on-independence-day/ Fri, 04 Mar 2022 20:30:42 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2087516 The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police service will on Sunday, March 6, temporarily closed four major roads in Cape Coast for the Independence Day celebrations.

The move is to ease human and vehicular traffic to and from the venue before and during the 65th Independent anniversary celebration.

The roads are Pedu junction-Abura highway, Jukwa-Pedu junction, Kwamina Walker road -Cape Coast Sports Stadium and the University of Cape Coast-Stadium-Abura.

There would be diversions to the closed roads, while MTTD officials would be deployed for effective traffic management in the area.

Inspector Isaac Evans Ettie told the Ghana News Agency that security men would be stationed at vantage points to conduct searches and assist invited guests to the parade grounds.

He said access to the stadium had been limited to the vehicles of some designated guests and the security services, adding that unauthorized parking would not be allowed.

Inspector Ettie charged motorists to use alternative routes and urged the public to cooperate with security officers.

Invited guests to the Independence Parade were also encouraged to carry their invitation cards to the venue to enable them to access the vehicle parking lots.

The Independence Day celebration has in recent years been moved from Accra, where it had been held all these years, to Tamale in the Northern Region, Kumasi in the Ashanti Region and now to Cape Coast, in the Central Region.

The decentralization of the national event is to bring meaning, experience and the story of the country’s independence closer to Ghanaians across the country.

After decades of political struggle by the ‘Big Six’, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, who later led the Convention People’s Party (CPP) in the push for independence, became the first Prime Minister of the colony from 1954 to 1956, and subsequently became the first President when Ghana finally gained independent on March 6, 1957.

On the eve of Ghana’s Independence on March 5, 1957, Dr Nkrumah declared Ghana as an independent country from British colonial rule at the Old Polo Grounds in Accra.

Beyond the normal parade and speeches on Sunday, the event ground is expected to be flooded with personalities in traditional wear, mainly Kente to showcase the rich culture of Ghana.

Thousands of very important personalities, including high-ranking members of the security services, will join the President on the dais, while notable organizations and schoolchildren will march at the event.
