The incident occurred at the Gomoa Dominase Onion Market in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.

According to police sources, the suspect and his accomplices are believed to have stolen over 20 cows from various individuals in the Gomoa Dominase area.

They purportedly sold the stolen cattle to butchers at Awutu Bawjiase and utilized a portion of the proceeds to purchase additional cows from the northern region, subsequently adding them to his father’s livestock.

Reports indicate that despite possessing over 1,000 cows, neither the suspect nor his father had reported any thefts prior to this incident.

In an interview with Adom News, one of the victims, Umar Inusah, speaking on behalf of the affected individuals, recounted how the suspects would masquerade as ordinary market-goers during the day, secretly identifying the large cows for theft.

Under the cover of night, they would return to steal the identified cattle, subsequently selling them to butchers.

Umar Inusah further disclosed that a vigilant farmer, witnessing the suspicious activities, alerted a police officer residing nearby, ultimately leading to the arrest of the primary suspect.

However, his accomplices remain at large.

Expressing concern over the ongoing disturbances caused by Fulani herdsmen in the Gomoa Dominase area, Umar Inusah urged the government to take decisive action to address the situation promptly.

Herdsman who inflicted cutlass wounds on farmer remanded https://www.adomonline.com/herdsman-who-inflicted-cutlass-wounds-on-farmer-remanded/ Fri, 09 Feb 2024 05:59:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2353615 The Bole District Magistrate Court on Thursday remanded into police custody a herdsman who inflicted cutlass wounds on a farmer at Seripe.

The incident occurred when the cattle of the herdsman destroyed the victim’s cassava and yam farm in the Savannah region.

This resulted in a confrontation between the two men of which the herdsman allegedly inflicted cutlass wounds on the farmer.

A nephew of the victim, Kwabena Jeremiah, told Adom News that he received a distress call from another farmer reporting the attack on his uncle.

He rushed to the farm, saw his injured uncle unconscious and took him to the Bole district hospital for medical attention.

When the victim regained consciousness, he described his attacker to the police leading to his arrest.

Jeremiah has since appealed to the government and local chiefs to intervene and address the ongoing tensions between Fulani herdsmen and farmers in the community.

Meanwhile, the suspect is scheduled to re-appear before the court presided over by His Worship, Edward Essel on Tuesday, February 13.

Herdsman allegedly abducted in West Gonja while asleep https://www.adomonline.com/herdsman-allegedly-abducted-in-west-gonja-while-asleep/ Thu, 07 Dec 2023 07:42:06 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2329125 The family of a 33-year-old man allegedly whisked away while in bed by some unknown well-built men at Sori Number One, a farming community in the West Gonja Municipality of Savannah Region, have expressed concern about the incident, and wants the police to investigate.

According to the family, Awudu Alhassan, a herdsman, was in bed when some unknown men invaded his room and took him away with only his boxer shorts on. He has since not returned home, and his location is unknown to them.

“We were in bed in separate rooms on Sunday, 26th November 2023 when some men came and opened my door and lifted me, looked at me, and left me. Then, I saw them move to the next door where my brother Awudu was sleeping, and they brought him out of his sleep. I saw the men lift my brother half naked into a waiting pick-up parked by the roadside and they drove off.”

“As much as we don’t suspect anybody for now, why is it that when we reported the matter to the Damongo police, they just said they did not have a hand in his arrest and they didn’t do any follow-up or investigate the incident up to now. So, it’s like police here knows something about this case but their hands are tied”, he lamented.

Meanwhile, sources within the Savannah Regional Police Command have told Joy News that Awudu Alhassan was taken to the Police headquarters in Accra.

The sources further explained that personnel from the Police Intelligence Unit in the Ghana Police Service carried out the exercise and are keeping the young man in an unknown location in Accra for a possible investigation of an unknown crime.

It would be recalled that a year ago, a similar exercise was carried out in the region in the Sawla-Tuns-Kalba District by some National security operatives with the police included, where some young men were whisked into a pick-up and sent to Accra.

Some of those taken away died and their bodies were later released to their families for burial in Sawla, hence the concern for Mr Awudu Alhassan’s safety and well-being.

Having in mind the Sawla experience, the elder brother of Awudu Alhassan, Abdulai Alhassan has appealed to the Inspector General of Police, George Akuffo-Dampare to grant his brother bail or allow him access to an attorney.

“He is a Ghanaian and was born here some 30 years ago, but we have never seen or heard that Awudu Alhassan has done anything criminal. So, we are pleading for his release anytime soon”.

The victim was allegedly shot at by the kidnappers when he attempted to flee.

He sustained serious gunshot injuries to his thighs, which also damaged his manhood.

An eyewitness who narrated the incident to Citi News said they heard gunshots in the night and later found the victim in the bush with injuries.

This is the fourth attempted kidnapping in the area.

It is believed that the kidnappers are also suspected to be fellow herdsmen.

In the first incident, relatives allegedly paid a total of GH¢140,000 to the kidnappers, but the victim was subsequently killed.

A relative of the victim spoke to Citi News.

“We were in our rooms last night and heard gunshots. Everyone was scared. After a while, it stopped and people came out and traced the direction the sound was coming from. We got to the herdsman’s residence and saw bloodstains on the ground.

“We actually didn’t see anybody until when we were about to go when he crawled out of the bush with gunshot wounds to his thighs. Both legs were injured, and his manhood was also injured. We quickly organized a car and took him to Zabzugu Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. We call on the security to look into it and bring the perpetrators to justice.”

Officials of the Immigration Service at the checkpoint near Larabanga escorted them to the hospital, and the officer in charge, Mr Kennedy Tengzagh, donated blood for the victim at the hospital where he is currently receiving treatment. The case has been officially reported to the police in the district.

Herdsman fined for rearing animals in residential area https://www.adomonline.com/herdsman-fined-for-rearing-animals-in-residential-area/ Thu, 15 Sep 2022 13:11:37 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2163006 The Madina Magistrate Court near Accra in the Greater Accra Region has sentenced a herdsman to a fine of GH¢420.00 for rearing animals under insanitary conditions in a residential area.

Shaban Abubakar, who was charged with lack of permit for keeping animals, and causing public health nuisance, was convicted on his own plea when he appeared before the court presided over by Suzanna Nyakotey.

In default of the fine, the convict will spend three months in prison.

The Court also ordered him to demolish the cattle kraal and relocate the animals in accordance with laid down regulations of the assembly.

Brief facts

Narrating the facts of the case, the Prosecutor, Bernice Ofori Nyarko, an Environmental Health Officer, told the court that Abubakar reared cattle in a residential area under insanitary conditions.

She told the court that the accumulated cow dung did not only emanate stench to the detriment of the health of residents in the neighbourhood but also served as a favourable breeding ground for heel flies which were noted for causing annoyance and discomfort to humans

She said the accused person having, ignored several appeals from aggrieved residents, was served with a notice to abate the nuisance and relocate the animals but failed to comply.

The action of the convict, she said, was in violation of the La Nkwantanang Madina Municipal Assembly (Control of Stray Animals) Bye-Law, 2017.

It states that “No person shall keep pigs, cattle, etc. in any premises except at designated places as may be approved by the assembly”.

The convict was, subsequently, charged to appear before the Madina Magistrate Court.

The father of the deceased, Alhaji Maude, was scandalised following the series of events in the district.

According to him, he had a clear agreement with the land owners to lead their animals to graze on the land.

He noted that the land in which his son was murdered was given to them for the purpose of grazing, hence they were not destroying anything.

“The place is not a farm to suggest that the animals had destroyed farm products to provoke this dastardly act,” he told Adom News.

The parent of the deceased wants justice for his son and has urged the Police to help apprehend the perpetrators.

Assemblyman for Kwamekrom Zongo, Umaru Sanda Ibrahim, has advised the Fulanis to remain clam and leave everything to the Police.

He appealed to the herdsmen against any reprisal attack as this could affect the peace and stability in the district.

The headman of the Fulani’s and Zamrama’s has also pleaded for peace as they are really shocked at the current turn of events in the area since over the years there had been a cordial relationship with the land owners and farmers.

The Biakoye District Chief Executive (DCE), Millicent Kaboki Carboo, later visited the family to commiserate with them and reassured them of the government’s support.

The DCE said efforts were being made by the Assembly to ensure harmony between farmers, cattle owners and land owners.

The Worawora Divisional Commander, Superintendent Simon Amenu, who is in charge of the investigation, has, however, appealed to the people to volunteer information to the Police to unravel the culprits behind the incident.
