Witnesses said the deceased was with a team transporting timber in a truck to Amanfopong when the unidentified men tried to stop them.

The timber operator refused to stop so the unidentified men chased them and shot him during the chase.

According to them, the unidentified men then stormed the entire community, creating fear and panic among residents, so most of the youth had to ran for cover.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been sent to Our Lady of Grace Hospital at Breman Asikuma.

Director General of Police Public Affairs, ACP David Eklu encouraged the public, especially residents of Kasoa to remain calm and provide information to help weed out criminals in the area.

Sergeant Michael Dzamesi and Lance Corporal Mohammed Awal were on duty Wednesday afternoon when they were shot dead by some men in an unregistered vehicle at Buduburam near Kasoa in the Central region.

The two officers from the Kasoa Motor Traffic and Transport Department were said to be conducting road checks when the incident happened.

The unregistered vehicle was signaled to stop as it approached the checkpoint but the driver failed to stop, causing the police to chase the vehicle.

Three people have since been arrested in connection with the incident.

Condemning the killing of the two officers, ACP Eklu said the acting Inspector-General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh, who is currently attending a National Police Command Conference in the Volta region has dispatched a team to assist in investigating the crime.

He said the police service is in touch with the families of the deceased officers for the necessary support to be offered them as per police procedure.

The incident according to Tatale Sanguli District Police Commander, ASP Eric Akwaboah happened at 20:00 GMT on Tuesday when two men armed with guns and cutlasses mounted roadblocks at an outskirt of a village called Benlador – few meters from the district capital – and was demanding money and seizing motorbikes.

A resident managed to escape the attack and spread the news in the village leading to some residents arming themselves to face off with the persons who were suspected to be armed robbers.
Two of the residents were accosted on their way to the scene with their motorcycle and hacked by the suspects.
This residents however returned the fire but the robbers fled into a bush.
The injured, he said raised alarm and more villagers thronged to the scene with weapons and pursued the attackers.

One armed robber, ASP Eric Akwaboa said was found dead during the search near a stream around a village.
The two injured villagers identified as Nfobil and Ndombe are currently receiving treatment at the Tatale Health Centre.

PHOTOS: 3 suspected robbers gunned down by residents https://www.adomonline.com/photos-3-suspected-robbers-gunned-residents/ Mon, 22 May 2017 07:23:23 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=130361 Residents of Tatale in the Tatale Sanguli District of the Northern Region have shot dead three suspected armed robbers after they robbed traders in Tatale market Sunday afternoon.

A resident, Kofi Abanga told Adom News’ Illiasu Abdul Rauf, that the men were on motorbikes and shot into the air, while robbing people on their way.

One trader is said to have been wounded and is currently receiving treatment at the Yendi government hospital.

“The robbers entered through the Togo-Ghana border town and they stopped at the bus stop where people usually exchanged the Ghana and CFA currencies

“We heard gunshots and when we traced the whole issue, we realized that there were some intrusion of armed robbers that had come into town” the resident said.

The men numbering about eight on motorbikes fired shots indiscriminately hence scaring the residents but unfortunately, three of the robbers were gunned down.

Adom News’ Illiasu Abdul Rauf reports that majority of the people in the town are currently at the Police station to seek shelter.

Meanwhile, the police have begun investigations into the matter and are currently on a hunt for the other suspects who are believed to be hiding in the bushes or fled into neighbouring Togo because the area shares border with Ghana.
