The declaration followed a protest from the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) candidate, Kwame Appiah Kodua, over contentious pink sheets from two polling stations.

After a brief delay to address the concerns raised, the EC has confirmed Apaw-Wiredu as the validly elected candidate for the constituency.

Announcing the results at the EC office in Begoro, the Returning Officer for the election, Zacharia Adams, stated that at the close of polls, Haruna Apaw-Wiredu had secured 11,138 votes, while Kwame Appiah Kodua garnered 10,847 votes. A total of 21,985 valid votes were cast, with 581 ballots rejected.

In a statement to the media following the declaration, Mr. Apaw-Wiredu said, “As a party, we did our own collation with the same sheets that were given to all the parties, so we were surprised when they told us they could not find the pink sheets. But we thank God that the EC has finally been able to produce the actual outcome of the elections.”

He expressed gratitude to the constituents for their support throughout the election and pledged to work towards addressing the many challenges facing the constituency.

Apaw-Wiredu also called on his supporters to celebrate in moderation.
