The Community II Presec School Park was crowded with mourners from far and near as the one-week celebration of veteran actor, Ekow Blankson was held.

Clad in red and black apparel, the sympathisers trooped to the school park to commiserate with the bereaved family.

Members of the Actors Guild led by their President, Bill Asamoah and other colleagues from the Creative Arts Industry were in attendance to offer their support.

The likes of Kalybos, Fiifi Coleman, Fred Amugi, Michael Afranie, Prince David Osei, Anthony Wood, and Beverly Afaglo, among others, were present.

The actor, who was also into other private businesses, died on Monday, October 3, 2022.

Though the cause of his death is still not known, a last video before his death captured him in the hospital interacting with some nurses.

He was 50 years.

The one week observation of veteran actor, Ekow Blankson, has been scheduled for Saturday, October 15, 2022.

The ceremony will take place at the Community II Presec School Park from 8:00am to 6:00pm.

The demise of the actor, who was also into other private businesses, broke out on Monday, October 3, 2022.

Though the cause of his death is still not known, a last video before his death captured him in the hospital interacting with some nurses.

He was 50 years.

Tears as Ekow Blankson’s last video goes viral on social media

The last video of veteran actor, Ekow Blankson, has gone viral on social media.

The deceased is said to have sent a video of himself in the hospital interacting with some of the nurses to his Deputy Commercial Manager, Eric Kwaku Vlidzo.

In the video, Mr Blankson, who wore a white African print attire and with his usual smiling face, is heard telling one of the personnel at the hospital that he needs to take a video to show that he is in the hospital.

“I need to take a video to show her that I’m in the hospital. Am I not in the hospital?” Mr Blankson quizzed the personnel at the hospital.

“Oh, you are in the hospital,” the personnel responded.

Managing Director of TV Africa, Ekow Blankson has described current crop of actors in Ghana as jokers.
Known for movies such as ‘The Intruder’, ‘Diary of the Black Hustler’, ‘Total Exchange’, ‘Frozen Emotions’, ‘My Mother’s Heart’, ‘Check Mate’, ‘The Secret Burden’ and ‘A Woman’s Desire’, Ekow Blankson in an interview with SVTV said current actors are no longer interesting to watch, compared to his time.

“I think that our new crop of actors are just jokers. Unfortunately they aren’t as exciting and real as people have done in the past. Sometimes it gets a bit worrying watching them perform,” he said.
Commenting on movies produced in Kumasi, commonly referred to as ‘Kumawood’, the ace actor said the sector has adapted the ‘concert party’ style where actors are not guided by scripts.

“I think the Kumasi movie industry is a different form of film making. It’s actually concert party where you don’t prepare a script and follow. They are given pointers and they have to create out of it and that is the concert party style and they have enhanced it into film,” he said.
Ekow Blankson’s role in Shirley Frimpong Manso’s ‘Check Mate’ earned him a Best Actor nomination at the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) and Best Supporting Actor at the Ghana Movie Awards.

He is an efficient and versatile individual with over 20 years of experience gained across Head of Business Units, Brand Management in Marketing, Corporate Affairs Management, Experiential Marketing, Capability training, Distribution Management and General Commercial Business Management.
Ekow Blankson holds a Diploma in Theatre Arts – Drama as well as Masters in Fine Arts degree both obtained from University of Ghana, Legon. Ekow also holds Marketing In Action (MIA) program certificates obtained from his studies at Heineken University in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
