The system will leverage data from sources like the GhanaCard, GhanapostGPS, Mobile Money, DVLA, GRA, and bank accounts.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer previously mentioned that this system is intended to enable workers to purchase items, including houses and cars, on credit at lower interest rates.

He believes the new credit score system will allow more Ghanaians to participate in the economy by providing a structured way to track and assess creditworthiness, thereby creating a framework that benefits both individuals and businesses.

NPP gov’t has exceeded records in infrastructure development – Bawumia https://www.adomonline.com/npp-govt-has-exceeded-records-in-infrastructure-development-bawumia/ Wed, 23 Oct 2024 13:14:19 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2463482 Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has maintained that the Nana Akufo-Addo-led government has surpassed previous records in the country’s infrastructure development.

Bawumia, also the flagbearer of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), asserted that, the country has experienced significant advancements across all sectors, including roads, sports, the judiciary, and education during the near-eight years administration, and that no other government can compare to his and Nana Addo’s leadership.

“This government of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has accomplished so much in the area of infrastructure development across the country. Our government is second to none in the Fourth Republic when it comes to infrastructure, whether you’re talking about roads, schools, hospitals, courts, astroturf, public libraries, fish landing sites, or DRIP projects. There’s no comparison with any government in the Fourth Republic; we’ve exceeded the records of any government in these areas.”

He was speaking in Ho on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, where he commissioned a newly-built Ho Municipal Office complex as part of his recent campaign tour of the Volta region.

He added, “This philosophy that we’ve applied in putting infrastructure in place is to ensure there is equitable distribution across the regions so all districts can have comparable infrastructure, and that is what we’ve been doing.”

Dr. Bawumia, who is seeking to be elected president, stated during the brief event that the record is clear, and Ghanaians should be proud and appreciative of the NPP’s leadership.

Bawumia honours memory of S. G. Antor https://www.adomonline.com/bawumia-honours-memory-of-s-g-antor/ Tue, 22 Oct 2024 07:47:52 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2462859 The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, laid a wreath in memory of the late S. G. Antor at Logba in the Afadjato South Constituency.

The event was a solemn tribute to Antor, whom Bawumia acknowledged as a founding member of the NPP, praising him for his “sacrifice” and unwavering dedication to the party’s ideals.

Born in 1931, S. G. Antor was known for his fearless opposition to the political ideals of Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.

His resistance led to his eventual arrest, but thanks to the intervention of the British government, Antor was released from detention, a testament to his unyielding spirit.

Antor’s commitment to political activism played a crucial role in the formation of the United Party (UP) tradition, which eventually became the foundation of the NPP.

His efforts were instrumental in shaping the party’s early structure and ideology, leaving a lasting legacy in Ghana’s political landscape.

Despite his impactful contributions, S. G. Antor eventually passed away, leaving behind a legacy of dedication and service to the nation.

Dr. Bawumia, in his tribute, highlighted Antor’s immense role in the political history of the NPP and the country at large.

“He opposed Nkrumah from 1957 when he was a member of Parliament for the area which was known as the Kpando North Constituency”

“Nkrumah ordered his arrest for treason in 1957. S. G. Antor appealed to the international court at The Hague. He was again arrested and placed in detention in 1966 and he was released after the 1966 coup.

“So, this is a man that has sacrificed when you look at his life history, he has sacrificed for Logba, he has sacrificed for this region, he has sacrificed for Ghana,” Dr Bawumia said.

Bawumia commissions phase II of Tsatsadu hydro power plant https://www.adomonline.com/bawumia-commissions-phase-ii-of-tsatsadu-hydro-power-plant/ Mon, 21 Oct 2024 08:20:42 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2462391 The Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has commissioned Phase II of the Tsatsadu micro-hydropower generation plant, constructed on the Tsatsadu waterfalls at Alavanyo in the Hohoe District of the Volta Region.

Constructed entirely by Ghanaian engineers of the Bui Power Authority (BPA) and funded largely from internally generated funds, Phase I of the Tsatsadu Generating Station (TGS) – commissioned by President Akufo-Addo in December 2020 – generated 45 kilowatts (KW) of power while Phase II adds 75 Kw.

Dr Bawumia also commissioned a Centre of Excellence constructed by the BPA to house and provide practical training to Engineering students.

He described the projects as part of government’s efforts to diversify the country’s energy mix and reduce the reliance on oil and gas for electricity generation.

Dr Bawumia, who is also flagbearer of the NPP for the December elections, commended the Board and Management of the BPA for their efforts in diversifying their energy generation mix with the recent completion of a 5 MW solar farm on the Bui Dam, adding that a Bawumia Government would do even more.

“As I have indicated in my Manifesto for the 2024 elections, I will work to introduce 2,000 MW of solar power into our energy mix. This will significantly reduce the cost of electricity, reduce the cost of living and operating a business. The solar panels will be manufactured here, further providing jobs for the youth,” Dr Bawumia stated.

Chief Executive Officer of the Bui Power Authority, Kofi Dzamesi, disclosed that the BPA was exploring the construction of additional micro-hydro facilities, including further works on the Tsatsadu waterfalls, to provide additional power for the national grid.

Hohoe EP SHS

In another development, Vice President Bawumia has fulfilled his promise to provide logistics to the Cadet Corps of the Hohoe EP Senior High School.

Dr Bawumia, who was Guest of Honour at the School’s 60th Anniversary celebrations in May 2023, expressed delight at the crisp and smart drills of the School’s Cadet Corps and pledged to meet their request for logistics.

At a brief ceremony on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at the School’s premises President Bawumia handed over uniforms, boots, scarves and other logistics to the Corps.

“Last year I made a promise to you, and being a man of my word, I am here today to fulfill my promise.

“I have heard your request for a school bus, and God willing, next year when I am president, you will have a brand new school bus.”

All that a Ghana-owned streaming platform will require if it is to succeed https://www.adomonline.com/all-that-a-ghana-owned-streaming-platform-will-require-if-it-is-to-succeed/ Sat, 19 Oct 2024 11:05:12 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2462051 “Is it my fault?” was her response while she looked over my shoulder for the waiter who never came to take our order.

She had run out of ways to explain why the streaming platform she works for seems to unfairly spotlight other host countries over Ghana.

Let’s call her Adwoa, she is a top executive with arguably the biggest global streaming giant, and an acquaintance who I had met for breakfast a week ago.

For Adwoa, the data backed the decisions made by her company as South Africa had the existing cultural framework while Nigeria had the population to push things through commercially.

All of these point to one undeniable fact: Ghana’s best bet to seeing digital content creation success can only start from developing a well-structured framework.

This is why it felt somewhat out of touch when Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia confidently announced the launch of a local streaming platform in November.

Dr Mahamadu Bawumia

The Vice President and NPP flagbearer’s declaration was clear: the platform would be the country’s first local music and movie streaming service, designed to offer better financial rewards to Ghanaian creatives.

While the announcement is exciting, it raises several questions about its feasibility, potential challenges, and whether it will deliver on its promise or become another unfulfilled government venture.

Don’t get me wrong. The idea is laudable and very feasible, especially given the frustrations Ghanaian artists have faced with earning income from existing household names.

Ideally, a local streaming platform may allow artists to better control their revenue, but its success depends heavily on the platform’s ability to attract users.

There are reasons why local startups who have attempted this feat have yet to find any form of commercial success, which raises eyebrows at this upcoming one’s description as the first of its kind, but I digress.

Consumers in Ghana are already used to big platforms like Netflix, so it will require a great user experience, competitive pricing, and solid content to entice them to switch.

So, while feasible, it’s not without its challenges.

One of the biggest bottlenecks is the lack of proper frameworks within which the digital mechanisms surrounding revenue collection can be applied.

This was Adwoa’s concern. She constantly compared how easy it was to have access to data in the South African market and how beneficial it was to curate genre-specific activations to fit campaigns.

Another issue is internet accessibility and data costs. Streaming services require a lot of bandwidth, and with data costs in Ghana still relatively high, many potential users could be priced out of the market.

Accra, Ghana

Additionally, the platform will face stiff competition from well-established international platforms.

Netflix invested $175 million in South Africa, Nigeria, and Kenya between 2016 and 2022, according to the company’s impact report released in April 2022.

Is the government willing to reach that deep into its pocket to tie all the knots regarding its project?

It is important to note that the two key sources of revenue for these platforms are ads and subscriptions.

Do not forget that, to make this platform appealing, they’ll need exclusive content, affordable data partnerships, and aggressive marketing. Also, the complexity of royalty management can’t be underestimated. Ensuring transparency and timely payment to artists will be critical.

The local creative industry has a significant issue regarding royalties and other non-traditional payment channels. I would have preferred that priority be given to addressing these challenges and helping musicians and filmmakers earn a decent living from their work.

The sophistication of publishing modalities is a hill on its own that requires tons of considerations to master on one platform.

Effective royalty management is a core component of the platform’s value proposition. However, previous attempts by organizations like GHAMRO to track and distribute royalties have faced difficulties due to outdated systems and lack of transparency.

To avoid replicating these problems, the platform will need to ensure it has robust mechanisms to accurately track streams and fairly distribute royalties to artists.

If indeed the government is to pursue this agenda, I have a few suggestions… even though I think the Presidential candidate is putting the cart before the horse in this instance.

To avoid becoming a white elephant, this platform needs a solid sustainability plan. Public-private partnerships should be emphasized to ensure professional management.

Collaborating with telecom companies to offer affordable streaming bundles could help lower data costs for users.

Most importantly, the platform must be adaptable and continuously improved—adding new features, updating its content library, meeting copyright demands, and ensuring that the artists see real benefits in terms of royalties and exposure.

Without consistent updates and investment, it could fade out like many government-backed projects before it.

Hopefully, the sweet talk that was delivered at Dr Bawumia’s stakeholder engagement does not take after the attitude of our waiter during this breakfast with Adwoa, he never came until my time was up… and I’m still mad about it… lol.

Bawumia inspects work on Digital Youth Hub at UG https://www.adomonline.com/bawumia-inspects-work-on-digital-youth-hub-at-ug/ Thu, 10 Oct 2024 13:35:17 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2459036 The Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has inspected the progress of work on a Digital Youth Hub (DYH) being constructed at the University of Ghana (UG), Accra.

It is the first of technology hubs being established under the Ghana COVID-19 Alleviation and Revitalisation of Enterprises Support (Ghana CARES) programme.

The hub, which will serve as an innovative space for young tech entrepreneurs in the country to interact, collaborate, start up and build sustainable technology-based businesses, is a collaboration between the UG and the Ministries of Finance (MoF) and Communications and Digitalisation.

Preparations for the project started in November 2022, with actual construction beginning in January this year.

Architects for the project, Messrs Arc-AURA, and contractors, Messrs Mustek Engineering Limited, told Dr Bawumia at the site last Tuesday that the project, which sits on a five-acre land allocated by UG, was 55 per cent done.

The UG has also expressed its readiness to add five acres to facilitate the construction of hostel facilities.

They gave an assurance that the first phase would be ready by December this year.

The Ministers of Finance,  and Communications and Digitalisation, Dr Mohammed Amin Adam and Ursula Owusu-Ekuful   and  their respective teams, accompanied the Vice-President.

Also present was the Vice-Chancellor of the university, the consultants and other stakeholders.

Commendation

Dr Bawumia commended the partners for the project and said it was part of a greater agenda for the country to build a digital state, as well as accelerate digitalisation.

He said empirical evidence showed a positive correlation between digitalisation and economic growth.

The Vice-President said countries that would take advantage of the Fourth Industrial Revolution would create more job opportunities, adding that “you need to make sure that the youth in our country have the skills to be participants in this revolution”.

Dr Bawumia expressed the hope that when fully operational, the facility would be benchmarked against the best in the world to attract global players to the country.

He urged the Finance Minister to also provide resources for the hubs to be built at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), the University of Cape Coast (UCC) and the University for Development Studies (UDS).

“These three should be added, while we add others as we go, because we will need to train more people. We want to train a million youth in digital skills, a million youth. It’s not a task that cannot be done,” Vice-President Bawumia said.

Second phase

The Minister of Finance said the second phase would commence soon after the first was inaugurated in the first week of December this year.

It would entail the building of hostel facilities for students coming from other parts of the country and Europe.

He said until the hub was replicated in the other universities, people enlisted for training would have to use the UG facility.

The minister added that the project would be built on the UCC, KNUST and UDS campuses to spread the infrastructure to provide skills for more people.

He further said that the hub would have a 2,000 capacity conference room that could make it the centre for conferencing.

The minister said the hub was being built to mimic the Silicon Valley in the US, which started in Stanford University with a similar hub, attracting industry and the business community to build high-tech firms.

Dr Adam said the government had established a $5 million endowment fund to support the management and the planning of the hub when completed.

“So everything that is required to make it a complete hub, a complete village for the provision of skills to the youth of Ghana, is available,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia described the app as a personalized tool designed to enhance convenience and transparency in government-citizen interactions, making processes more efficient and communication with state institutions more seamless.

“Under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s leadership, digitalization has become a cornerstone of our economic strategy. The Fourth Industrial Revolution is already transforming global landscapes, and as a nation that missed out on the previous three revolutions, we cannot afford to miss this one. Kow Essuman: Bawumia’s vision for the youth, jobs, and modern economy https://www.adomonline.com/kow-essuman-bawumias-vision-for-the-youth-jobs-and-modern-economy/ Wed, 18 Sep 2024 19:06:34 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2450737 One thing is becoming clear: Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), is not just talking about business—he means business.

In the manifesto unveiled by the NPP, Dr. Bawumia outlines a bold vision to transform Ghana’s economy, with a laser focus on creating jobs for young people and developing businesses that can thrive in a new, modern global economy.

For young Ghanaians, this is more than a manifesto—it’s a roadmap to economic empowerment. As host of the weekly Patriotic Spaces on X, which engages directly with young people, I had the privilege of sitting down with the Deputy CEO of the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, Mr. Yaw Afriyie, on 4th September 2024, to break down what this really means for the future of our nation’s youth.

And the message is clear: a vote for Dr. Bawumia is a vote for businesses, innovation, and job creation. In the conversation, we talked about Dr. Bawumia’s commitment to jobs and digital skills, the SME bank, a digital economy for a global future, his vision for sustainability and long-term job creation, and creating opportunities for all through deliberate policies on gender and inclusivity.

Commitment to jobs and digital skills

In today’s rapidly evolving world, where the Fourth Industrial Revolution is disrupting industries across the globe, it is no longer enough to depend on traditional jobs. The NPP manifesto understands this shift and prioritises preparing Ghanaian youth for the digital age.

With a commitment to training 1,000,000 young people in digital skills, the message Dr. Bawumia is sounding is loud and clear: Ghana is ready to position its youth at the forefront of the global digital economy.

This is a game-changer. Young people from all walks of life, whether in rural or urban areas, will have access to skills in fields such as robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), and data analytics. These industries will define the future of work, and Ghana’s youth will be equipped not just to participate but to lead in these spaces.

The creation of jobs is not limited to traditional sectors. The manifesto highlights the potential of sectors like agribusiness, construction, tourism, and creative arts, where young people can carve out meaningful careers. Dr. Bawumia’s vision is one where young Ghanaians are not just employees; they are entrepreneurs, innovators, and leaders in a future-focused economy.

SME Bank: Empowering entrepreneurs

Access to financing has always been a major barrier for young entrepreneurs. This is where Dr. Bawumia’s proposal of an SME Bank comes into play.

This initiative is designed to provide tailored financial support for small and medium-sized businesses, which employ over 80% of Ghanaians. It is aimed at young business owners needing capital to scale their ideas.

But financing is only part of the story. Initiatives like the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP) introduced under the government of Nana Akufo-Addo, which has already funded 15,000 small businesses, demonstrate a commitment to supporting youth-led enterprises through mentorship and training.

For young people looking to start or grow their businesses, these programmes provide not just the resources but also the networks and support systems they need to succeed.

Digital Economy for a global future

Dr. Bawumia is not just thinking about today’s economy—he is looking towards the future. The manifesto outlines a clear plan to transform Ghana into a world-class digital economy.

This includes building a National Robotics, Engineering, and AI Lab, establishing a $100 million Fintech Fund to support tech startups, and pushing for cross-border mobile money interoperability across Africa.

For young tech enthusiasts, this is an exciting time. The world is moving towards digital solutions in finance, health, education, and nearly every other sector.

Ghana is being positioned as the digital hub of Africa, and this opens up a wealth of opportunities for young Ghanaians to create innovative solutions, access new markets, and build successful tech enterprises.

Vision for sustainability and long-term job creation

In addition to digital industries, Dr. Bawumia is investing in sustainable job creation in sectors like green energy, mining, and agriculture. The manifesto emphasises the development of the electric vehicle industry and solar power, creating jobs not only for the present but also for the long-term future.

This is an important distinction. Many job creation initiatives focus on short-term gains, but Dr. Bawumia’s policies are designed to create industries that will provide sustainable careers for generations of Ghanaians.

By concentrating on renewable energy and sustainable agriculture, young people will find opportunities in industries that are growing, stable, and aligned with the global push towards green economies.

Gender and Inclusivity: Opportunities for all

One of the standout features of the NPP’s manifesto is its focus on inclusivity, particularly for young women. Initiatives like the Women’s Trade Empowerment Fund (WoTEF), gender parity in scholarship awards, and the commitment to making tertiary education free for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) reflect a commitment to ensuring that no one is left behind.

These policies open new doors for young women entrepreneurs and professionals. The manifesto promises to address the specific challenges women face in business and the workplace, including support for women-owned businesses and measures to protect women’s rights in the workforce. This holistic approach to job creation and economic empowerment recognises the need to create opportunities for all, regardless of gender or ability.

A Vote for Bawumia is a vote for the future

At its core, Dr. Bawumia’s message is one of possibility. In his own words, “It is possible” to build a future where every young Ghanaian has the chance to thrive in a dynamic and modern economy.

The policies outlined in the manifesto are not just promises—they are bold solutions designed to create businesses, foster entrepreneurship, and provide secure jobs in a future-focused economy.

For young people across Ghana, this election presents a critical choice. A vote for Dr. Bawumia is a vote for businesses, jobs, and innovation.

It is a vote for policies that will equip the youth with the skills they need to succeed in a global digital economy, empower entrepreneurs with the resources they need to grow, and build sustainable industries that will provide long-term employment.

Dr. Bawumia means business, and his business is the future of Ghana’s youth. The opportunities are vast, and the vision is clear: a brighter, prosperous future where young people lead the way.

So as we head to the polls in December, remember—a vote for Dr. Bawumia is a vote for businesses and jobs, for a Ghana that thrives in a modern, global economy. Let’s build a future of possibility together. It is possible!

Be decent; election 2024 is not about insults – Bawumia to Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/be-decent-election-2024-is-not-about-insults-bawumia-to-mahama/ Mon, 16 Sep 2024 18:47:43 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2449679 Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has called on the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Mahama to be decent in his campaign ahead of the December 7 election.

According to him, the election is about ideas and not insults, hence the former President must maintain decorum.

“When you lack ideas, you begin to insult people but when you have ideas you present them. As for us, we have bold solutions to problems,” he said.

The Vice President was speaking at a campaign rally in Accra on Monday where he accused Mr Mahama of labelling members of the clergy, civil society organizations (CSOs), and traditional leaders as “hypocrites” due to their perceived silence on national issues.

Dr Bawumia stated that, such remarks undermine the dignity of the Office of the President which Mr Mahama once held.

“You all know I am competing with the former president to win this election. I think he has realised that he will lose the elections so he is always angry. I heard he insulted some pastors, chiefs, imam and CSOs saying they are hypocrites. He even insulted the ECG.

“Today he said the NPP is a foolish government. Why would a former president say something like this? We must have some level of decency in the language we speak as politicians,” he stated.

Dr Bawumia further defended the achievements of the NPP government, noting that they have outperformed the previous administration in several key areas.

“You said we are a foolish government but we have created more jobs than your government, we have built more roads, interchanges, schools, factories, and hospitals than your government. Every sector of the economy that you can mention, we have done better but you are saying we are foolish.

“If you believe in yourself, come for a debate. He is scared because he knows I back my statements with data,” he touted.

Your ‘economic messiah’ hype was unnecessary – Bawumia told [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/your-economic-messiah-hype-was-unnecessary-bawumia-told-audio/ Thu, 05 Sep 2024 09:30:41 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2444526 The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Director of Legal Affairs has described the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as an over-hyped economist, who has failed with the management of the economy.

According to Godwin Edudzi Tameklo, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) before the 2016 election touted Dr Bawumia as an Economic Messiah.

Mr Tameklo remarked that, Dr Bawumia once hailed as an economic hero, has now fallen from grace to zero.

“As a personal philosophy, I become worried when people begin to hype me too much. The hype on Bawumia was too much and unnecessary and that has created the problem for him.

“Because the impression created was that you are an economic messiah and your wife even called you Economic Wizkid so we handed the economy over to you. But the course of the Ghana economy will humble you. It doesn’t respond to anything,” he said.

In an interview on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme, he said the NPP flagbearer despite his reputed expertise has failed to meet the expectation of Ghanaians and is now wobbling.

Expressing deep concern over the state of the economy which he believes Dr Bawumia cannot disassociate himself from.

“You should be suspicious when people hype you with the economy. He held several economic lectures with distinguished names but look at us now. Today he is telling us that what will he do when elected President if he fulfills all promises now,” he said sarcastically.

NPP’s track record in education unprecedented – Bawumia https://www.adomonline.com/npps-track-record-in-education-unprecedented-bawumia/ Wed, 04 Sep 2024 14:57:47 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2444002 Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has said the party’s record in education is unprecedented in the history of Ghana.

According to him, the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy, especially has made education attractive.

Dr. Bawumia added that, the Free SHS policy has not only increased enrollment but has also improved the quality of education in terms of student performance.

The Vice President was speaking at a stakeholders engagement at the Church of Pentecost, Kaneshie Central Assembly, in the Okaikwei South Constituency, as part of his tour in the Greater Accra Region.

He met with community leaders, clergy and students.

“We have achieved gender parity and the performance in the SHS has improved. People were saying free SHS will reduce quality but the results of WASSCE exams in these past years have been impressive.

“The top three students in the whole of West Africa are from Ghana and this shows our standard has gone up. Gone were the days we didn’t have chalks in schools but now we are supplying tablets to every SHS student in the whole of Ghana,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia also reiterated his commitment to ensure improved agriculture under his tenure as president to boost food production and reduce the high cost of food in the market.

Demand your monies from Bawumia – Mahama tells defunct DKM customers https://www.adomonline.com/demand-your-monies-from-bawumia-mahama-tells-defunct-dkm-customers/ Tue, 03 Sep 2024 12:20:35 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2443338 Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama has asked customers of defunct DKM Microfinance to demand their funds from Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia.

According to the former President, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer is now benefiting from the aggrieved customers investment.

Speaking in Nkoranza North as part of his Bono East Regional tour where the defunct company operated, Mr Mahama claimed the DKM owner a major financier of Bawumia’s campaign.

“In 2016, during my presidency, the NPP MPs and party leadership falsely accused my wife Lordina and me of being associated with the leader of DKM microfinance, which defrauded investors of their money. Recently, Vice President Bawumia was seen with the same individual funding his campaign as a crony of the NPP.

“I urge you to remember that while lies may spread quickly, truth ultimately prevails. When Bawumia visits, demand answers from him about his involvement and the fate of your investments,” he stated.

In the run-up to the 2016 elections, the politics of the DKM ownership surfaced and it was used as a campaign tool against John Mahama and his NDC.

This was after the Bank of Ghana (BoG) suspended DKM for breaches of the banking act in 2015.

But Mr Mahama has categorically dismissed the claims, describing it as a propaganda tool used against his family.

He referenced a viral photo of the DKM owner with Dr Bawumia on a campaign tour.

This, he said makes it evident that he [DKM owner] has been financially supporting Bawumia, so, he [Bawumia] must help customers retrieve their monies.

Bawumia is faithful; Ghana will see massive transformation – Ejura chief https://www.adomonline.com/bawumia-is-faithful-ghana-will-see-massive-transformation-ejura-chief/ Fri, 30 Aug 2024 16:07:45 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2441753 Nana Barima Osei Hwedie II, the chief of Ejura in the Ashanti Region, has eulogised the Vice President and NPP presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for his trustworthy leadership and commitment to the development of Ejura and the country at large.

The Chief noted that Dr Bawumia is a man of his word and, therefore can be trusted to deliver on his promises.

He also commended Dr Bawumia’s Running mate, Hon. Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, for his frankness and outstanding achievements, particularly in the education and energy sectors.

Nana Barima II was speaking at a durbar held on Thursday, August 29, within the Ejura Sekyidumase Constituency and attended by traditional rulers, Imams, opinion leaders, representatives of identifiable groups, market women, students and residents in the community, to welcome Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh and his entourage.

“I know Dr Bawumia personally and have worked with him. I can say on authority that he is a man who can be trusted to do what he says he will do. We can all attest to the fact that when he said he would tackle the Ejura water crisis, he delivered.

“When he also promised to build a hospital for us, he delivered. I can go on and on. When we vote for him to be President, Ejura and Ghana will see a massive transformation. Dr Bawumia is also receptive. So, I can go to his office anytime to demand our share of the national cake”, he said.

Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh also known as NAPO took his tour to Anyinasu and Sekyedumase where he held community engagements with traditional authorities and other relevant stakeholders.

He solicited support for his boss, Dr Bawumia, and the party’s parliamentary candidate, Gifty Mboma, who is said to reclaim the Ejura-Sekyidumase seat for the governing NPP.

The NPP Running Mate proceeded to the Afigya-Sekyere East and Kwabre East constituencies, also holding community engagements with the Chiefs, religious leaders and other stakeholders in the Agona, Wiamoase, Abira and Kenyase communities.

While touting the unmatched record of the New Patriotic Party, NAPO rallied the people to support the vision of Dr. Bawumia and his bold solutions for Ghana.

He appealed to them to vote overwhelmingly for the party’s parliamentary candidates, Mavis Nkansah Boadu for Afigya Sekyere East and Onyiwa Acheampong for Kwabre East.

Suhuyini slams Bawumia over statement on 2020 election deaths https://www.adomonline.com/suhuyini-slams-bawumia-over-statement-on-2020-election-deaths/ Thu, 29 Aug 2024 21:09:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2441150 The Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini, has criticised Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for his response to questions regarding the 2020 election violence that resulted in the deaths of eight individuals.

During the 2020 election, some eight persons were killed from gunshots, allegedly fired by military personnel at the Techiman North constituency in the Bono East Region.

When asked a question at his recent media encounter, Dr Bawumia claimed he did not know the extent of investigations on the issue.

Reacting to Dr Bawumia’s response on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show, Mr Suhuyini expressed his dismay at the Vice President’s apparent lack of knowledge and interest in the ongoing investigations into the violence.

“How can you serve as Chairman of the Ghana Police Council for eight years now, and for the first time in our elections since 1992, eight people lost their lives and when you are asked a question about it, you fumbled throughout and showed your lack of interest or knowledge on such a very critical matter of lives being lost.

“And you are Chairman of the Police Council. Is it the case that you don’t care about your job as Chairman of the Police Council, or you don’t care about the lives that were lost?” he quizzed.

He further described the NPP flagbearer’s response as embarrassing and irresponsible.

He argued that the Vice President’s handling of the question displayed a lack of accountability and concern for the victims of the violence.

“I felt very embarrassed with the lack of interest or responsibility that Bawumia showed by the way he handled that question,” he noted.

He further suggested that Dr Bawumia’s media encounter, which aimed to shift attention away from the National Democratic Congress (NDC)’s manifesto, backfired.

“For me, I think that what is clear is that the press conference that was intended to overshadow the very beautiful manifesto of the NDC, which is intended to solve the problems that he and his president have created, turned out to be his Waterloo,” he added.

You can’t upgrade hardship – Haruna Iddrisu tells Bawumia https://www.adomonline.com/you-cant-upgrade-hardship-haruna-iddrisu-tells-bawumia/ Wed, 28 Aug 2024 20:26:01 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2440562 Former Minority Leader has taken a swipe at the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia over his comment to upgrade Ghana.

According to Haruna Iddrisu, the present condition of the country does not need an upgrade but a reset as suggested by the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama.

In an interview on JoyNews’ The Pulse on Wednesday, August 28, he stated that the NPP had eight years in office and had the opportunity to fix the ailing economy and deliver on their promises yet failed.

“For the NPP and Bawumia, it’s a lost opportunity. What you cannot do in eight years, you are now promising it in 100 days and promising it into the future, no. Ghanaians gave you a mandate and that mandate was for eight years … even in their manifesto for 2016 – the agenda for jobs, transforming Ghana from production to taxation said they will end the suffering of Ghanaians. Have they ended the suffering of Ghanaians?

“It is not for them to say that President Mahama should not say reset. They even say upgrade – you cannot come and upgrade hardship, inflation which is already high, poor performance of economy, unsustainable debt,” he said.

His comment follows Dr Bawumia dismissing Mr Mahama’s proposal to reset Ghana arguing that Ghana does not need a reset but rather an upgrade.

According to Mr Iddrisu, the NPP is aware they had created ‘filth’ and waiting on the NDC to come and clean and fix it.

He indicated that, the NPP had no reason to fail Ghanaians and to plunge the nation into crises noting that the “NPP got over GH500 billion additional money, the Bank of Ghana GH50 plus billion added to it, growth in revenue, you inherited ESLA which is generating billions of cedis.”

Bawumia owes me $7 million – Sam George [Audio] https://www.adomonline.com/bawumia-owes-me-7-million-sam-george-audio/ Tue, 27 Aug 2024 14:48:55 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2439696 Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament(MP), Sam George says the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia owes him $7 million under the government’s ‘One Million One Constituency‘ initiative.

According to him, his constituents are yet to benefit from the much-touted initiative as the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) eight year tenure comes to an end.

This unfulfilled promise to him makes Dr Bawumia who is the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) lack the credibility to lead Ghana, adding he cannot be trusted.

“You tell me Dr. Bawumia should be trusted. Was it not Dr Bawumia who went and promised one million dollars per constituency?

“I am the MP for Ningo-Prampram and I have not received a pesewa. I am owed $7 million by Dr Bawumia; he made that promise. The people of Ningo-Prampram deserve their $7 million and this year we will get the additional 1 million to make it $8 million,” he said on Accra-based GHOneTV.

However, Sekondi MP, Andrew Egyapa Mercer who was on the same show reminder Mr George that the money was not meant to be physical cash.

He explained that the initiative sought to improve development at the local level and the money was there invested into various projects.

Most of the projects, he said, include sanitation, and for that matter, public toilets, warehouses, community centres among others.

But Mr George who was still not satisfied with the explanation mentioned that there are only three projects under the initiative in his constituency.

He disclosed they are all toilets, comprising two 12-seater and one six seater facilities which to him were not worth $7 million under the years in review.

Dr Bawumia ahead of the 2016 election announced the policy aimed at alleviating poverty in the country.

He said that the policy was under the infrastructure for poverty eradication at a total cost of $1.6 billion.

With this amount, the NPP government intended to invest in pro-poor policy in villages across the country.

2024 Election: It’s Alan vs. Mahama, as Bawumia fumbles and tumbles out of the race https://www.adomonline.com/2024-election-its-alan-vs-mahama-as-bawumia-fumbles-and-tumbles-out-of-the-race/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 16:21:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2439175 The recent media engagement by the NPP’s presidential candidate, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has left many Ghanaians questioning his competence and integrity.

His failure to answer basic questions posed by journalists has not only damaged his credibility but also exposed a lack of preparedness for the highest office in the land.

One particularly worrying moment was his response, or lack thereof, to the deaths of eight people during the 2020 elections.

As the Chairman of the Ghana Police Council, Bawumia’s inability to address such a critical issue of national interest reflects a troubling breach of integrity and sincerity.

Moreover, Bawumia’s response to the ongoing issues at COCOBOD, given his role as head of the Economic Management Team, was nothing short of shocking.

His vague and uninformed answers raised serious concerns about his understanding of the economic challenges facing the country.

This was further compounded by his comments on the depreciation of the cedi, where he appeared clueless and failed to pass the test of his own famous saying: “When the fundamentals are weak, the exchange rate will expose you.” His inability to offer concrete solutions or insights in this regard is alarming for someone who has been entrusted with managing the nation’s economy.

Perhaps the most startling revelation came when Bawumia was asked why he had not implemented the tax cuts and other policies he is now promising, despite having the power to do so.

His response, “If I do everything now, what will I do when I come into office,” was both baffling and disheartening. It suggests a lack of genuine commitment to improving the lives of Ghanaians and raises questions about his true motivations.

This kind of reasoning only serves to undermine trust in his leadership and casts doubt on his ability to govern effectively.

Handing over the future of Ghana to someone as clueless as Alhaji Bawumia, alongside his running mate, “Sleepy Napo”, is as frightening as watching a Dracula horror movie.

The prospect of this duo leading the country is a terrifying thought that should give every voter pause and chills.

Ghanaians deserve leaders who are not only competent but also sincere and ready to tackle the pressing issues facing the nation, not individuals who seem more interested in holding onto power than in making meaningful changes.

The race for the presidency is now clearly between Mahama and Alan Kyerematen, leaving Bawumia fumbling out of the contest.

Shalom shalom!

Bawumia commends Joy FM for exposure on plot to tag him “liar” https://www.adomonline.com/bawumia-commends-joy-fm-for-exposure-on-plot-to-tag-him-liar/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 12:59:13 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2439037 The Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has commended Joy FM and the African Academy for Open-Source Investigations (AAOSI) for exposing machinations by persons he described as key officials of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to smear him by branding him a liar.

At his interactions with the media on Sunday, Dr. Bawumia was asked whether he was bothered by efforts by the opposition NDC to brand him a liar.

Responding, Dr. Bawumia was quick to refer to how even the President, Nana Akufo-Addo was labelled a murderer and drug addict by the NDC, saying by being labelled a liar, he has not suffered as much smear campaign as President Akufo-Addo.

Dr. Bawumia also added that in comparison, “at least I am not called Government Official One”, referring to the labelling of former President Mahama by courts in the US and the UK in the Airbus corruption scandal.

Specifically addressing the issue of being labelled a liar by the NDC, Dr. Bawumia referred to a report by the African Academy for Open-Source Investigations (AAOSI) in collaboration with Joy FM, which said the labelling of Dr. Bawumia on social media, was an orchestration by the NDC, to smear him.

Dr. Bawumia commended Joy FM and AAOSI for their work which exposed the NDC, adding that on every proposal he made, which the NDC said he was lying, he successfully achieved them, thereby exposing the NDC.

“Interestingly, whenever I come up with something and they say it is impossible and that I am lying, we prove them wrong. But when we do, they don’t come back,” he said.

Dr. Bawumia listed a number of policy proposals he announced, which he said the NDC claimed he was lying, but they ended up being successfully implemented.

He mentioned these to include the Ghanacard as a travel document to travel into Ghana, the delivery of medical supplies through drones, and mobile money interoperability which he said has lifted Ghana to be number one most financially inclusive country in Africa.

Election 2024: Act professionally to safeguard peace – Bawumia charges security agencies https://www.adomonline.com/election-2024-act-professionally-to-safeguard-peace-bawumia-charges-security-agencies/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 08:59:44 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2438861 Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has entreated the security agencies to discharge their duties professionally before, during and after the December 7, Election to safeguard the peace and harmony of the country.

He decried the numerous disinformation and misinformation campaigns targeting the civil populace, the Military, and the Government in this electioneering.

However, Dr Bawumia urged the Military to conduct themselves professionally to ensure the country’s stability and tenets of democracy were upheld.

The Vice President advised during the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College (GAFCSC) joint graduation ceremony of Senior Staff Course 45 and Master of Science Degree in Defence and International Politics for the 2023/2024 Academic Year in Accra on Friday.

“As the nation goes to the polls in December to choose a leader and representatives to parliament, it is imperative to conduct yourselves professionally to ensure the stability and the tenets of democracy are upheld always,” he said.

“In the Fourth Republic, governments have always depended on your professionalism, discipline and resolve to discharge your duties without fear or favour,” Dr Bawumia said.

In all, 98 senior officers from the Ghana Armed Forces and 16 allied African countries graduated with Past Staff Course (PSC) Certificates while 42 civilians received Master of Science Degree (MSc) in Defence and International Politics.

The 11-month intensive training took the officers through courses like Military Operations, Terrorism and Counter Terrorism, and Conflict Management.

Major-General Matthew Essien, the Commandant of the GAFCSC, in his welcome remarks, congratulated the graduates for successfully completing the course and urged them to use their network to promote peace and harmony on the African Continent.

He appealed to the Government to expand and modernise the College’s infrastructure, especially lecture halls and residential accommodation, to increase enrolment.

Major-General Essien entreated the graduands to serve as good ambassadors of the College in their respective institutions and work together to safeguarding the peace and harmony of their countries.

Over the years, the Ghana Armed Forces Command and Staff College has been reputed to be one of the best military colleges in Africa.

The Staff College has earned the envious reputation of being a centre of excellence for both military and academic studies.

Consequently, most allied African countries, including Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire, Togo, Benin, Botswana, Burkina Faso, Zimbabwe, Zambia and Angola have sought vacancies at the Staff College to train their military officers.

I am very proud of my record – Bawumia https://www.adomonline.com/i-am-very-proud-of-my-record-bawumia/ Mon, 26 Aug 2024 07:47:49 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2438814 The flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has expressed pride in the achievements of the NPP government under President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

According to him, the country has experienced significant strides made across various sectors since the NPP assumed office in 2017.

Answering a question on whether or not he would apologise for under-delivering his promises to Ghanaians at a media engagement on Sunday, Dr Bawumia insisted that the incumbent government in which he is a Vice President has accomplished a lot.

He said he takes a lot of pride in these achievements especially when he compares them to that of the previous government.

“When you look at how we are changing Ghana, and you look at the performance of the economy before we came into office, we are doing much better across virtually every sector than the man who wants to come back. So I am very proud of my record. I am very proud of it,” he stated.

The presidential candidate further highlighted the numerous accomplishments that have set Ghana on a path towards modernisation and economic growth.

He outlined several key milestones achieved for the first time in Ghana’s history.

These include the establishment of a national ID system and the introduction of national IDs at birth, along with birth certificates for all children.

He also emphasised the removal of the guarantor requirement for student loans, a move aimed at making higher education more accessible.

He indicated that it was under the NPP government that Ghana now boasts a comprehensive digital address system.

“We’ve struggled with this for 60 years; it’s only under our government and with my initiative that we have a comprehensive digital address system,” he noted.

He highlighted the government’s success in achieving 100% financial inclusion and making financial services accessible to all Ghanaians.

Additionally, the use of drones to deliver medical supplies to over 2,694 facilities across the country has made Ghana home to the world’s largest medical drone delivery service.

“540,000 flights have been made so far to very remote parts of Ghana, saving many lives,” Dr Bawumia said.

Dr Bawumia also pointed to the advancements in digital services, such as the ability for citizens to renew national health insurance, purchase electricity credit, and pay school fees through their mobile phones.

He touted the NPP government’s visionary role of implementing innovative programmes like the gold purchase programme at the Bank of Ghana and the gold-for-oil initiative.

These policies, Dr Bawumia believes, will significantly benefit Ghana’s economy.

Looking ahead, Dr Bawumia announced plans to launch a local Uber-like app for traditional taxis, aimed at levelling the playing field for local taxi operators and keeping more money within the Ghanaian economy.

“The work has been virtually completed, and we will outdoor it very, very soon,” he added.

With these achievements, Dr Bawumia insisted that the NPP’s record and its vision for the future, outshine that of former President John Mahama who is also the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Speak to issues of unfulfilled promises – Thomas Musah tells Bawumia https://www.adomonline.com/speak-to-issues-of-unfulfilled-promises-thomas-musah-tells-bawumia/ Mon, 19 Aug 2024 16:58:25 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2435984 The General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), Thomas Musah, has called on the government to honour its promises to teacher unions.

Speaking on Joy FM’s Midday News on Monday, August 19, Mr. Musah stressed that the government had promised affordable housing for teachers in 2022, yet two years later, the promise remains unfulfilled, yet the promise has been made anew.

According to him, the government needs to revisit this commitment and not make new ones.

“We’ve been here before and I think that we cannot easily progress without looking at what had happened in history. Two years back, we engaged the government and they promised us that they were going to ensure that we get affordable housing.

“When you look at the budget statement, page 105 and paragraph 589 it is there that government will engage the teacher unions specifically NAGRAT to ensure that affordable housing is put in place .. so this is a nice opportunity to give a reminder,” he said.

Mr. Musah also urged the government to expedite action on other promises, such as promoting teachers from the rank of Deputy Director to Director 2 and 1, addressing issues faced by teachers in deprived areas, and delivering on the “laptop per teacher” initiative.

His comments come in response to a recent pledge by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), who during the unveiling of the party’s 2024 electioneering campaign manifesto, promised to offer incentives for teachers to purchase vehicles with engine capacities of up to 1,800CC.

While Mr. Musah acknowledged the importance of this initiative—noting that teachers had benefited from similar incentives in the past—he stressed the need for the government to fulfill previous promises before making new ones.

“…But as I said, the other ones they have promised and haven’t been delivered, we are asking of it and we want them to speak to those issues for us.”

Additionally, Mr. Musah called for the establishment of a pre-education funding act to ensure sustained financing for public education, pointing out that basic education in Ghana is currently facing significant challenges.

Stop trying to mislead the public – Agbodza fires Bawumia https://www.adomonline.com/stop-trying-to-mislead-the-public-agbodza-fires-bawumia/ Mon, 19 Aug 2024 14:34:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2435823 Minority Chief Whip Kwame Governs Agbodza has criticized Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for failing to provide evidence of the 10,800 kilometres of new roads announced in the 2022 State of the Nation Address.

Kwame Agbodza argues that the current administration’s focus on routine maintenance, rehabilitation, and upkeep of existing roads is misleading and represents a significant drop in infrastructural progress compared to the previous administration.

In a statement, Agbodza asserted, “The claims of constructing 10,800 kilometres of new roads have proven to be unfounded. The government’s recent emphasis on routine maintenance and rehabilitation work over new road construction is a clear attempt to mask their failure to deliver on their promises.”

He further pointed out that President John Mahama’s administration achieved substantial road development with fewer resources. “Under President Mahama, despite the limited budget of approximately GHS 50 billion for the 2016 fiscal year, the road infrastructure delivered was far superior.

For comparison, the 2017 budget detailed 10,723.49 kilometres of trunk roads, 16,183 kilometres of feeder roads, and 9,384 kilometres of urban roads,” Agbodza highlighted.

In contrast, the 2024 budget report reveals a stark decrease in road infrastructure: 4,809 kilometres of trunk roads, 8,984 kilometres of feeder roads, and 2,318 kilometres of urban roads.

“This is a dramatic reduction in road infrastructure, and it shows that the current administration is delivering less value to Ghanaians despite claiming otherwise,” Agbodza stated.

The Minority Chief Whip emphasized that there is a discrepancy in the Akufo-Addo government’s claims on roads constructed versus the actual progress made.

“The comparison clearly shows that with less financial resources, President Mahama was able to deliver more robust road infrastructure than the current government.”

The Minority Chief Whip’s comments come on the back of the launch of the NPP’s election 2024 Manifesto on Sunday, August 18, where government officials including the Vice President claimed the current government has constructed unprecedented roads.

Displaying our record before launching another manifesto shows our credibility and respect for Ghanaians – Bawumia https://www.adomonline.com/displaying-our-record-before-launching-another-manifesto-shows-our-credibility-and-respect-for-ghanaians-bawumia/ Sun, 18 Aug 2024 19:40:28 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2435484 The Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has emphasized that the NPP does not underestimate its commitment and responsibilities to the people.

“This is why the party has chosen to provide an account of its actions before introducing a new manifesto,” he said.

At the launch of the party’s 2024 Manifesto in Takoradi on Sunday, various speakers took time to account for a number of projects and initiatives the party has delivered in various sectors, out of its 2020 Manifesto.

Delivering his address, Dr Bawumia said deciding to account also shows that the NPP has a superior and a proud track record, which also signifies the potential to do more.

“Our tradition, the Danquah-Dombo-Busia tradition, has not only been the vanguard of the rule of law and governance but also pacesetters and drivers of life-changing policies and interventions,” he said.

“Let me thank all the earlier presenters for highlighting the major achievements of our government under the leadership of President Nana Akufo-Addo. We have taken some time to highlight these achievements because our track record is a significant predictor of capability and the potential to do more. We have catalogued them because, in the NPP we view these as our obligation to the people from whom we draw our mandate.”

“We have enumerated them because they communicate our ability to respond to the numerous needs of different sections of our society.”

“Indeed, we have listed them to show that we remain committed to fulfilling the social contract we have with the good people of Ghana. Above all, this exercise confirms that hundreds of pledges have been made to the Ghanaian people, and broadly, they have been kept, and given the opportunity, more impactful and forward-looking interventions will be implemented to move Ghana to the next level of the development journey; a journey that will build on our successes to open opportunities for all,” he added.

With many interventions, including Free SHS directly affecting the lives of millions, Dr. Bawumia also paid glowing tributes to President Akufo-Addo, predicting that posterity would judge him positively for touching millions of lives.

“We promised change and we have made significant progress. Mr. President, history will be kind to you and you shall be remembered for the millions of lives you have touched. We are eternally grateful.”

Ghana’s future is not for ‘recycled’ Mahama – Atta Akyea https://www.adomonline.com/ghanas-future-is-not-for-recycled-mahama-atta-akyea/ Sun, 18 Aug 2024 14:27:24 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2435378 The Member of Parliament for Akim Abuakwa South, Samuel Atta Akyea has said Ghana’s future lies with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) under the leadership of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, rather than with what he describes as a “recycled” former President, John Mahama.

Speaking ahead of the NPP’s manifesto launch in Takoradi, Samuel Atta Akyea asserted that the NPP has consistently introduced impactful policies, such as the Free SHS initiative, which he believes will continue to shape Ghana’s future positively.

“After the manifesto launch we should all see that the future of this country is not with the recycled Mahama but with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia,” he said.

“Anything of consequence that will bankroll poverty always comes from the NPP. So you are going to see another level of serious issues and a blueprint that we will depend on so that we come out of the current economic difficulties,” he added.

Additionally, he criticized former President Mahama’s proposal to offer free tuition for level 100 students, implying that the policy lacks the depth and foresight of the NPP’s initiatives.

“…You don’t have any sense of free SHS, it came from the NPP and that is a paradigm shift. It thrives to empower the nation for the next 20 years.”

He highlighted that the NPP manifesto would introduce critical ideas that would be instrumental in addressing the country’s current economic challenges.

The former Works and Housing Minister also mentioned that digitalization would play a significant role in the new manifesto, adding that it would be a game changer.

Individualized credit scoring system to be rolled out by end of year – Bawumia https://www.adomonline.com/individualized-credit-scoring-system-to-be-rolled-out-by-end-of-year-bawumia/ Tue, 13 Aug 2024 10:58:58 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2433105 Flagbearer of the governing New Patriotic party (NPP), Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia says individualized credit scoring will be rolled out in Ghana before the end of the few of this year to make life easy for Ghanaians who may want to purchase items on credit and pay overtime.

The move, according to the Vice President, will transition the country from a cash-based system and help young businesses to grow.

Speaking at a ceremony to commemorate International Youth Day at the Pentecost Convention Center in the Central Region on Monday, Dr. Bawumia stressed on the transformative potential of this new credit system.

“This system will open up new opportunities for individuals and small businesses to access credit, which in turn will drive economic growth and job creation.

“We are shifting from a cash-based system to a credit-based one, where credit scoring will enable lenders to make informed decisions. This means that someone, like a hairdresser who has just completed training, can purchase equipment on credit and pay in small installments over time. The same applies to carpenters and other professionals.”

The Vice President also promised to train one million youth in the digital space if elected President in the upcoming elections.

“One of the areas that I am going to be very keen on is training one million youth in digital skills. This is because without the skills the youth cannot have the opportunity to participate fully in the fourth industrial revolution. There are many job opportunities, both inside and outside Ghana if you have the skills and training the youth in digital skills can be done without the youth necessarily having a university degree or going to a polytechnic.”

According to available information, a credit-scoring system is a statistical analysis deployed by financial institutions and lenders to assess a borrower’s creditworthiness.

It helps the lender to determine who is a high-risk or low-risk borrower, and the credit score of an individual can determine the maximum amount the person can borrow, as well as the interest rate to be applied.

In countries where there are no individualised credit-scoring systems, everyone is considered a high-risk borrower, and this generally affects interest rates, which are normally high across board.

Mahama-Bawumia pre-election debate unnecessary – Bawah Mogtari https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-bawumia-pre-election-debate-unnecessary-bawah-mogtari/ Tue, 09 Jul 2024 09:02:48 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2419533

A spokesperson for the John Mahama Campaign Team, Joyce Bawah Mogtari has dismissed the idea of a pre-election debate between the NDC flagbearer, John Mahama, and the flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

Despite calls from political analysts and stakeholders for such a debate, she has rejected the proposal.

In an interview on Accra-based Channel One TV, Madam Mogtari praised Mahama’s exceptional energy and extensive knowledge but hesitated about accepting a debate invitation.

She argued that, the current government’s performance makes a debate unnecessary, stating her strong confidence in Mahama’s ability to outshine any presidential aspirant.

Madam Mogtari suggested that, Mr. Mahama’s preparedness and expertise would only underscore his superiority in a debate, making it an unnecessary exercise.

“I personally have no appetite for a debate, I think that we debate when we literally know that our issues are probably parallel…When I look at what we have, when I look at the current trajectory, when I look at the failings of this particular administration, I ask myself why do we need to put up with a debate? But of course, this is a decision that the upper people usually will make.

“It’s not my decision to make, as the debates and conversations go along, maybe eventually some conversations will happen around it, and of course, who knows?

“We know all about the debates between John Mahama and then-candidate Akufo-Addo and who won those debates. So, I believe that the fact that Mr Mahama is a man whose energy and knowledge is unparallel is not in doubt. And I’m sure on any day, whomever, I know he’s going to win the debate. But I don’t think that immediately I will want to see that you put them through strict proof first,” she argued.

Let me unofficially congratulate you until the final announcement is made by the party and flagbearer.”

Bawumia unfit to lead Ghana – Fifi Kwetey https://www.adomonline.com/bawumia-unfit-to-lead-ghana-fifi-kwetey/ Thu, 27 Jun 2024 08:53:38 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2414107 The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has stated that the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is unfit to be elected President in the December 7 election.

According to him, the Vice President lacks credibility and cannot absolve himself from the mismanagement by the ruling government.

In this regard, he stated that the credibility of the presidential aspirants will be a deciding factor in the upcoming election.

“This election is not about ideas, it’s going to be about values, principles, and track record anchored on credibility. This election is not about talk, anyone can talk,… talk is cheap, any crook, or liar can come up with ideas.

“The real essence of leadership is the capacity to be able to have the principle to say things and mean them. To be able to say this is what we want to do and even if you don’t achieve it, people do know that you actually meant it, not to deliberately lie to them and you don’t even have what we call the humility to apologise when things go wrong,” he stated.

In an interview on Accra-based Channel One TV, the former Deputy Finance Minister said the Akufo-Addo-led government has woefully failed Ghanaians and must apologised.

“So, it’s not just about having been there on that part of Mahama, but it’s simply, about the difference in character. It’s about nobility, it’s about honour. Mahama has it, whereas the flagbearer of NPP absolutely has none,” he noted.

Mr Kwetey said he is shocked Dr Bawumia is making promises with the assurance to implement when elected president when he has the opportunity to do so now.

“So, it that takes courage, it takes principle. We’re talking about the flagbearer of NPP, who actually is the head of the economic management team. Who has been at the heart of governance, who’s still promising what we call heaven, when he’s in power and capable of resolving the problem. Who’s promising that when he comes, he will resolve e-levy, you’re in power, resolve the e-levy. No, when I come, I’m going to resolve the e-levy.

“The taxes, when I come, I’m going to bring flat rate, oh really? You’re in power, you have the capacity to do it now, you’re in power you can do so many things. He’s still promising heaven when he has the capacity to be able to do it now and initiate,” he stated.

Mahama is the most corrupt Vice President ever – Gideon Boako https://www.adomonline.com/mahama-is-the-most-corrupt-vice-president-ever-gideon-boako/ Thu, 20 Jun 2024 12:48:16 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2411063 An economist and spokesperson for Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Gideon Boako, has made a strong accusation against former President John Dramani Mahama, labelling him as the most corrupt Vice President in Ghana’s history.

Mr Boako’s comments have sparked significant controversy and debate within the political landscape.

Speaking in an interview with Kumasi-based Hello FM on Thursday, June 20, Dr Boako criticised Mahama’s tenure as Vice President, alleging that it was marked by numerous corruption scandals and financial mismanagement.

He pointed to various instances during Mr Mahama’s term where funds were reportedly misappropriated, leading to substantial economic losses for the country.

Dr Boako emphasised that such corruption undermined public trust and hindered Ghana’s development.

“I must state on record that between Mr Mahama who is the most corrupt Vice President because of his conduct in terms of corruption, you can’t compare that to any Vice President in the country’s history. He is the only Vice President whose President set up an investigation on him for allegations of corruption.”

“This didn’t happen during Ackaah’s era and all the rest that followed after him. So if that is anything to go by, Mr Mahama is the only Vice President whose President accepts that he is corrupt,” he stated.

He said government expects that the 250-bed Sewua Regional Hospital will be commissioned by July and the 500-bed Afari Military Hospital by August 2024.

Dr Bawumia gave the assurance in a meeting with the Ashanti Regional Ghana Medical Association(GMA) and other professional bodies as part of his nationwide tour on Monday.

“With the overcrowding that we are seeing at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, I agree with the suggestion to dedicate resources to retooling the hospital.

“And with particular reference to the two hospitals that are almost done, Sewua which is a regional hospital, and Afari which is a military hospital, we expect Sewua to be commissioned hopefully by July [2024] and commission Afari in August [2024] as well,” he said.

The Association expressed worry over delays in completing major health facilities in the region, a situation which has exerted pressure on the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH).

The Regional President of the GMa, Dr Paa Kwesi Baidoo criticised the prioritisation of the Agenda 111 projects while referral hospital struggles.

“Out of the 50 Agenda 111 hospital projects, why don’t we build 40 hospitals and dedicate the resources meant for the other 10 to retool Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to clear up the mess at the hospital [to make it efficient]?” he questioned.

NPP must not focus on where a running mate hails from – Kobby Mensah https://www.adomonline.com/npp-must-not-focus-on-where-a-running-mate-hails-from-kobby-mensah/ Mon, 10 Jun 2024 13:33:22 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2407130 Political marketing strategist, Prof. Kobby Mensah, has criticised the focus on a presidential candidate’s regional background as non-strategic and lacking vision.

As the governing New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential candidate for election 2024 prepares to name his running mate, there have been calls for regional considerations, with many expecting him to name a candidate from the Ashanti Region, the party’s stronghold.

But Prof. Mensah is urging members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to refrain from such discussions.

Speaking on the JoyNews AM show, he said, “If you want to tell Ghanaians that the party is national in character, it is not by choosing a candidate. That has to be a default position about who is competent to be your leader, not where they are coming from”.

Prof. Mensah stated that if any Ashanti individual becomes a vice-presidential candidate, they inevitably assume leadership in the president’s absence and are most likely to be positioned for the next leadership role.

Also on the show, a political science lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr Asah Asante echoed this sentiment, arguing that this scenario would mean yet another Ashanti leader, reinforcing the long-standing southern dominance in politics.

He suggested that in this context, Dr Bawumia’s candidacy might be perceived as mere window dressing.

“I am telling you that after this election, Bawumia cannot, unless he wins the elections and then he becomes president. He cannot win the leadership context of the NPP in the next round. He cannot, and if that happens, then it means that it was window dressing. You have not actually tackled the issue of perceived ‘Akanistic’.

I have championed 33 policies as Vice President, show us yours – Bawumia dares Mahama https://www.adomonline.com/i-have-championed-33-policies-as-vice-president-show-us-yours-bawumia-dares-mahama/ Thu, 06 Jun 2024 15:05:15 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2405574 The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has touted some of the innovative policies he initiated and implemented over the past seven years as Vice President of Ghana.

“I have initiated and championed 33 policies as Vice President and I want former President Mahama to show us the policies he championed under his tenure as Vice President,” he said.

Dr Bawumia said the country needs a leader who was innovative, consistent and hard-working to transform the country.

According to him, he has passed all the tests as Vice President to move to the next level as President to propel Ghana to a new height under the fourth industrial revolution.

Dr Bawumia likened former President Mahama to a student who scored 30 per cent in an examination against another student who scored 70 per cent in the same examination.

However, the student with a 30 per cent score asked the school authorities to let him represent the school in a national quiz competition at the expense of the one who scored 70 per cent in the examination.

“Does this make sense to you to allow the one with a 30 per cent score to represent the school? He asked, adding: “This is what former President Mahama want Ghanaians to do by voting for him as President”.

The Vice President said this in Accra on Wednesday during the ‘Youth Connect” programme, which allowed him to explain his vision to the youth drawn from the various tertiary education institutions.

He highlighted some of the policies he championed under his tenure as Vice President including Ghana Card issuance, Ghana Card as an International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) certified travel document for travel to Ghana, GhanaPost Digital Property Address System, Mobile Money Interoperability, and Ghana Card number as Tax Identification Number, SSNIT and NHIS number amongst others.

The NPP flagbearer, for instance, said Ghana was the largest medical drone delivery service in the world with six operational centres supplying medicines and blood products to 2,800 health facilities across the country.

The E-pharmacy platform, he said, had 2,500 pharmacies hooked onto it while all the teaching and regional hospitals in the country had been networked for quality healthcare services.

‘Dumsor’ interrupts Bawumia’s campaign speech in Accra [Video] https://www.adomonline.com/dumsor-interrupts-bawumias-campaign-speech-in-accra-video/ Thu, 06 Jun 2024 10:19:36 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2405414 Some moments of New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s campaign tour in the Greater Accra region on Wednesday, experienced darkness following power cuts.

The Vice President was interacting with teeming young Ghanaians as part of his Youth Connect series at the GNAT Hall when the light went off.

Lights, microphones, and speakers were all cut off, plunging the venue into darkness.

In a video shared on X by Accra-based GHOne TV, Dr Bawumia was announcing the issuance of Ghana Cards to students on their campuses.

The unstable nature of the power supply over the past few months has been a matter of concern for many Ghanaians.

Some celebrities, including actress Yvonne Nelson, have scheduled a demonstration for Saturday, June 8 against the situation, which has left residents and businesses in a terrible predicament.”

This was on the back of a demonstration on April 18, 2024, by a group calling itself ‘Youth for Asanteman’ in Kumasi to demand a load-shedding timetable amid recent unannounced power cuts.

The protest was staged after President Akufo-Addo commissioned the Kumasi 1 Thermal Power Plant aimed at improving access to power.

Bawumia proposes PTA involvement in Free SHS feeding programme https://www.adomonline.com/bawumia-proposes-pta-involvement-in-free-shs-feeding-programme/ Thu, 06 Jun 2024 10:02:40 +0000 https://www.adomonline.com/?p=2405392 The flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has proposed involving parents through Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) in the school feeding component of the Free Senior High School (SHS) programme.

Addressing church leaders in Accra, Dr Bawumia announced that this suggestion will be presented to Cabinet for consideration.

This aim of this proposal, he stated is to actively engage parents to ensure their children receive proper nourishment at school.

He highlighted that, this initiative will also help parents and guardians monitor what their children are fed and curb the theft of food items by some kitchen staff across various SHSs in the country.

“We should bring the PTA to observe so that the headmasters and matrons will know that parents are aware of the situation. Currently, if they receive five bags of food, they may declare only one if no one is watching. This is a brilliant and realistic suggestion,” he stated.

The Free SHS policy, introduced by the New Patriotic Party, aims to eliminate cost as a barrier to education.

According to the policy, every Ghanaian child who meets the pass mark set by the Ghana Education Service Council is entitled to a three-year scholarship for secondary education.
