They seem to be some of the unsuspecting victims of “Q-Net,” a popular fraudulent online scheme, which allegedly lures and defrauds people of huge sums of money, under the pretext of securing them jobs abroad.

ASI Boakye indicated the Sampa Command was collaborating with its counterpart in La Cote D’Ivoire to rescue and repatriate the stranded Ghanaian migrants, including women and girls back home.

Last year, the Command, with support of other security agencies rescued and brought about 200 of the victims back home through the Ghana-Cote D’Ivoire border in the Jaman North District of the region, he stated.

ASI Boakye made this known at a stakeholder’s meeting, organised by ActionAid Ghana (AAG), an NGO held at Abesim, near Sunyani to validate a project it implemented in the region.

The implementation of the three-year Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD)-funded multi-country project ended in December 2023.

ASI Boakye expressed disgust about the forms of human rights abuses the victims went through, saying “now as we speak about 200 of the victims are locked up in a room in Ivory Coast and they are not allowed to go out.”

He said it was difficult to trace the victims because they mostly traveled through unapproved routes along the border communities in the district, with the aid of motor and ‘pragyia’ riders in the area.

ASI Boakye, therefore, cautioned the youth intending to travel abroad to visit the GIS and endeavour to process all the legal documentations, warning that those who engaged the illegal services of the ‘Q-Net” exposed themselves to unnecessary dangers and did so at
their own peril too.

According to Kwame Afram Denkyira, the Bono Regional Programme Manager, AAG, the outcome of the project had contributed significantly to the promotion of people-centered national regulatory framework and policies to ensure decent work especially in the agricultural value chain.

The company’s management has, through a press statement, explained that due to deteriorating weather conditions at the destination airport, Kumasi, the flight could not land.

Ghana now exporting power to La Cote d’Ivoire https://www.adomonline.com/ghana-now-exporting-power-la-cote-divoire/ Fri, 25 Aug 2017 06:23:56 +0000 http://35.232.176.128/ghana-news/?p=432571 Ghana is now exporting electricity to her West African neighbours, La Cote d’Ivoire after just seven months of the Nana Akufo-Addo-led administration, Minister of Information, Mr Mustapha Abdul-Hamid, has disclosed.
He said the government had managed to stabilise the power supply situation after the country went through about four years of power crisis, which crippled many businesses.
“Without power, there is no way the industries can operate because power is what powers industries.
“The power situation is very stable in our country, we use to import power from Cote d’Ivoire to supplement what we produced in Ghana, today we’re exporting power back to Cote d’Ivoire again just seven months in government,” he stated.
He said the government had good intentions, zeal and commitment to resuscitate the economy and would get the economic fundamentals right to enhance the industrialisation drive.
Mr Abdul-Hamid said this at the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Government and The Business Year magazine, in Accra, on Wednesday.
The Information Minister initialled on behalf of Government while Madam Florencia Solano, the Country Manager of the Magazine, signed on behalf of her organisation.
The MoU implies that the international magazine would publish Ghana’s business and industrial potentials in its various editions while Government facilitates interviews and provide other relevant data for publication.
Madam Solano, on her part, said her outfit was aware of the changes happening in the country to diversify the economy and would, therefore, provide the platform for Ghana to inform the global audiences about the opportunities here.
The multinational magazine comes out once every year and has a presence in 30 countries and supplied its publications to businesses, corporate organisations and individuals.
It also has a website and newsletters that carry some of its publications.
The magazine provides accurate, timely and country specific economic and business data with highlight on statistics, news, laws and tax legislations.
