Drivers at Agona Swedru in the Central region have threatened series of demonstrations in the area following the arrest of 32 members by the District Police Command.
The decision follows the arrest and remand of the drivers by the Agona Swedru Magistrate court on Tuesday for stoning police officers who were deployed to protect residents during a demonstration in the area on Monday.
Speaking in an interview with Adom News, the disgruntled drivers said they will not give up on their colleagues and threatened to disrupt economic activities in the area until their release.

“We won’t leave this place until they release our people because we are in this together. No driver in this area will work, neither will the police and we will continue to demonstrate till our request is granted,” he said.
The angry drivers have also threatened to invoke curses on police in the area for the arrest and remand of the 32 drivers.
The drivers were arrested by Police in Agona Swedru during a ‘no road no vote’ demonstration during which the angry group blocked access routes and burnt tyres.

Police were called to the scene to quell the protest, but it turned chaotic with residents claiming live bullets were fired leaving one policeman injured.
