SWAT team members wore black T-shirts for operations – DSP Azugu

The SWAT unit commander at National Security, DSP Samuel Azugu, has disclosed that the national security SWAT team that operated at the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election on January 31, 2019, dressed in black T-shirts.

Men dressed in black polo shirts and khaki trousers stormed the La Bawaleshie Primary School, near the Parliamentary Candidate of the National Democratic Congress’ residence, leading to chaos.

Minister of State in-charge-of National Security, Bryan Acheampong, confirmed the masked men who stormed the area are personnel from National Security.

He explained that operation was necessary for the operations due to the intelligence they received from grounds.

Giving his testimony at the Short Commission of Inquiry hearing on Monday, DSP Azugu stated the men were part of a confidence-building patrol team deployed by the National Security.

“I was in charge of the national security team that set out to go for confidence building patrol and they wear black t-shirts, especially when going for operations,” he said.

DSP Azugu added that the national security team was at the constituency for a different assignment based on intelligence they gathered.

“The national security was on a special assignment which was to go on confidence-building patrols and also lay surveillance on particular areas which has come to the notice of the national security but they did need to talk to anybody,” he said.

The masked men in black t-shirts and khaki trousers were alleged to have fired gunshots and slapped Ningo-Prampram NDC Legislator, Samuel George, who in a video, appeared to be questioning them.
