Suspects who allegedly kidnapped Abetifihene denied bail

-

The Mpraeso Circuit Court denied a bail application for 28 people remanded in connection with the alleged kidnap of the Abetifihene, Kwahu Adontenhene Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III.

The suspects were part of a group that stormed the Abetifi Palace to destool Akyemfour Asiedu Agyemang III, who is currently acting as the President of the Kwahu Traditional Area.

They were remanded on November 8 when they made their first appearance.

Efforts by their lawyer, Nkrabea Effah Dartey, to secure their bail when the case was called on Thursday, November 14, proved futile.

The court, presided over by Her Lordship Adwoa Akyemaa Ofosu, remanded them again into police custody to reappear on November 27, 2024.

Speaking to Adom News, the lawyer for the accused persons said he was not happy with the decision of the court.

However, the spokesperson for the Abetifi Palace, Nana Saka Darko, commended the court for the decision as investigations continue into the incident.

The men, initially thought by residents to be National Security operatives, were said to have been led by Obaapanyin Yaa Asantewaa, the Abrewatia of Kwahu, to the Abetifi Palace, where they detained Asiedu Agyemang III.
