The suspects involved in the killing of cattle belonging to the Fulani community at Sabonjida in the Nanumba North Municipality in the Northern Region have been arraigned before court.

They have been charged with possession of firearms without lawful excuse under Section 11 of the Arms and Ammunition Act, 1972 (NRCD 9), and cruelty to animals under Section 303 (1a) of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

The arrests follow violent attacks on Wednesday, March 19, when some residents of Sabonjida and Afayili communities went on a rampage, killing animals and setting fire to huts belonging to the Fulani people.

The unrest was reportedly triggered by allegations of armed robbery, which resulted in the death of one person.
