Suspected thugs disrupted the funeral of Nana Kwame Kumnipa IV at Kwahu Twenedurase in the Eastern Region, forcing an abrupt end to the ceremony.
The week-long funeral rites for the late chief of the Kwahu Twenedurase/Werempehene Traditional Area began on Sunday, March 2, 2025. However, the event was put on hold to prevent further attacks amid fears for the safety of mourners.
Confirming the incident, Nana Antwi Siaw II, Kyidomhene of Kwahu Twenedurase, stated that the attack occurred around 10 p.m. during rainfall.
“A group of unidentified men, believed to be thugs, stormed the funeral grounds, dismantled canopies, and destroyed the late chief’s posters and decorations,” he recounted.
He added that an official complaint has been lodged at the Eastern North Regional Police Headquarters in Kwahu Mpraeso.
Meanwhile, Nana Kwasi Boakye, the Baamuhene, has warned that the perpetrators will be dealt with when caught.
The police have since launched an investigation into the incident.
