The Ghana Institution of Surveyor (GhIS) have come to the support of the National Blood Service by donating blood to help curb the shortage of blood at various hospitals in the country.
Their donation comes on the back of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH) blood bank has run short of blood.
According to the Planning Committee Chairman of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors, Kofi Obeng Ayirebi, has taken note of news of blood shortage in blood banks in the country, making it difficult for the facilities to save lives.
He said as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility, they have decided to donate blood to some of these banks to save lives.
“We feel uncomfortable when we hear that our hospitals are short of blood and people die as a result of the challenge so we are optimistic that the few blood we have given will save some lives and encourage other organizations to go to the aid of our hospitals”, he said.
Meanwhile Donner Recruiting Officer at the National Blood Service, Abigail Osei Nyarko said the hospital needs certain quantum of blood daily but can’t get a quarter of that quantum currently.
She therefore appeals to individuals and various entities to come to their aid.
