Member of Parliament (MP) of Efutu Constituency in the Central Region, Alexander Afenyo Markin, has explained the Supreme Court {SC)’s ruling on the removal of former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), Professor Mawutor Avoke.
Mr Markin who is also a lawyer has explained that the SC ruling did not ask for the reinstatement of Professor Avoke as has been interpreted in certain quarters.

According to him, the SC’s declaration was to the effect that the reliefs of the plaintiff required the taking of evidence even in the absence of a defence from the defendant.
He added that the SC did not order for the reinstatement Prof Avoke as many have misconstrued the ruling to mean.
Afenyo Markin who was speaking on Asempa FM’s political talk show, Ekosii Sen Wednesday also explained that the appointment of a new VC for the UEW was not as a result of an order from the High Court but rather an administrative action by the Governing Council.

Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Education, Winneba Professor Mawutor Avoke and four others were recently dismissed based on recommendations by the university’s governing council but the accused persons maintain their sack was politically motivated.
Professor Mawutor Avoke, the Finance Officer, Dr Theophilus Senyo Ackorlie, Daniel Tetteh, Mary Dzimey and Frank Owusu Boateng have however denied any wrongdoing, saying they have not been found guilty by any court of competent jurisdiction.
