Black Stars coach Otto Addo has called on Ghanaians to rally behind the national team as they shift focus to qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
This appeal follows Ghana’s failure to secure a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), set to take place in Morocco.
The team’s hopes were dashed after a 1-1 draw against Angola last Friday, leaving fans and players alike disappointed.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Addo acknowledged the frustration but emphasized the need to move forward.
“I understand that people are disappointed, maybe angry. I was also disappointed, but surely we have to move on now,” he said.
“We need to do our best to prepare for the World Cup qualifiers, and it starts tomorrow.”
He urged Ghanaians to show their support for the team.
“If you [Ghanaians] want us to go to the World Cup, you need to support us,” he said.
Ghana currently sits second in Group I of the World Cup qualifying table, level on points with leaders Comoros.
Only the group winners will advance to the knockout stage. The Black Stars will face Chad and Madagascar in their next qualifying matches, scheduled for March 2025.
Addo aims to make history by becoming the first coach to guide the Black Stars to consecutive World Cup appearances.
