Students Loan Trust Fund approves disbursement to over 9,400 students

-

Students Loan Trust Fund (SLTF) has approved the disbursement of loans to 9,433 students in 62 public and private tertiary institutions across Ghana.

This move is among the first major steps taken by Dr. Saajida Shiraz since assuming office as Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Trust Fund.

Addressing concerns over delays in disbursement, Dr. Shiraz extended an apology to affected students and assured them of her commitment to ensuring prompt financial support.

She emphasized that under her leadership, the SLTF will prioritize efficiency to prevent future setbacks.

She also reaffirmed her dedication to President John Dramani Mahama’s vision for enhancing tertiary education financing, noting that she has initiated steps to facilitate the smooth rollout of the SLTF Plus policy—an initiative designed to expand financial support and improve the fund’s overall impact.

Reflecting on her initial days in office, Dr. Shiraz described the period as productive, filled with strategic discussions and engagements.

She actively participated in the National Education Forum on education financing, interacted with SLTF staff, and explored ways to strengthen the fund’s operations.

Additionally, she held discussions with newly appointed Deputy CEO Kojo Danquah, visited two zonal offices, and assessed the SLTF regional office in Accra.

She noted that key interventions have already been made to ensure the fund serves students more effectively.

With these early actions, Dr. Shiraz has set a proactive tone for her tenure, reassuring students that they can expect improved accessibility and service delivery from the SLTF in the coming months.
