#StopGalamseyNow: Chief Biney’s open letter to Bawumia on his birthday

-

A former deputy National Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Chief Biney Hamilton Nixon has expressed concerns over the inaction of government in fighting the galamsey menace.

The deputy NDC Campaign Coordinator for elections 2024, in charge of special operation has said the silence of President Akufo-Addo and Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia is deafening, especially as he [Akufo-Addo] vowed to put his presidency on the line to end this menace.

These words were contained in a message to mark the birthday of Dr Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer on Monday, October 7.

“Mr. Vice President, the damage is visible everywhere. Our rivers are dying, our food is toxic, and future generations will inherit a country with environmental scars that may never heal.
“For the sake of your own children and grandchildren, you must be honest with Ghanaians. Will you continue to remain silent, or will you finally call on the President to act decisively before it is too late?” he quizzed.

Reiterating Akufo-Addo’s call on Ghanaians to be citizens and not spectators, Chief Biney noted it wasn’t mere political rhetoric but a call to action for accountability.

“As someone aspiring to lead this nation, you must show that you are not just a passenger in this administration but your own man, capable of confronting hard truths. You must remind the President of his age, and that leadership requires more than wealth— it demands leaving behind a legacy of integrity for the young lives that will one day carry the mantle of this country.
“After all, a good name is indeed better than riches. Please use your influence to ensure this country is left with a name we can be proud of,” he admonished.
