Minister for Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Stephen Asamoah Boateng, has appealed for calm and unity among Bawku residents, urging them not to politicize the intensifying conflict in the region.
Speaking to the media on Tuesday, October 29, the Minister reaffirmed the government’s dedication to ensuring peace in Bawku.
His appeal comes amid rising security concerns following a tragic attack on Sunday, October 27, when gunmen ambushed travelers on the Bolgatanga-Tamale highway near Gbimsi, a community near Walewale.
During the incident, eight people lost their lives after being questioned about their identities by the attackers, who then opened fire.
The assailants also set two vehicles ablaze, further alarming the public and underscoring the urgency for peace and government action.
Asamoah Boateng assured residents that his Ministry, in partnership with other relevant agencies, is committed to working impartially with all parties involved to address the crisis.
“I urge all sides to avoid conspiracy theories and blame games. Let’s remain calm and allow the government to address the security and chieftaincy matters at hand. This is not a time for political maneuvering, and I am engaging my colleagues from across the political spectrum to cooperate in restoring peace in the area,” he stated.
He also called on traditional leaders in the region to avoid actions that might escalate the conflict.
“I urge traditional leaders on all sides to refrain from any acts that could worsen the situation.”
