Stop ‘glorifying’ corruption – Kofi Adams told

-

The Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Kofi Adams and supporters of the party have been warned to stop ‘glorifying’ perceived acts of corruption in the former administration.
Suspended General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Atik Muhammed speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen said some supporters and executives of the main opposition party seem to be glorifying corruption with their comments.
He cited the Ashanti Regional Chapter of the NDC which has promised support for former Director of COCOBOD, Dr Stephen Opuni who has been charged with 27 counts of causing financial loss to the state.

The Attorney General and Minister for Justice Gloria Akuffo has charged Dr. Stephen Opuni and one Seidu Agongo for shortchanging the state by slapping them with a total of 27 charges.
The case will be up for hearing at the High Court in Accra on Friday, 23rd March 2018.
Dr. Opuni had his assets including his accounts, frozen by the Economic and Organised Crimes Office (EOCO) in February 2017.
Although reasons for the seizure were not officially communicated, sources say the EOCO is seeking to investigate the entire period that Dr. Opuni served as CEO of that critical state agency.
The Organiser of the NDC, Kofi Adams is record as claiming that the NDC will offer the needed support for Dr Opuni.

“It’s just a calculated attempt to tarnish the big man’s image but we won’t allow them to go ahead with their scheme to destroy the man. We want him to know that we are solidly behind him and we will make sure that he comes out victorious”, he said on Accra based radio station, Neat FM as monitored by Adomonline.com.
The Ashanti Regional Chapter of the party has also indicated that the charges being pressed against the former CEO of COCOBOD is an attempt by the Akufo-Addo administration to witch hunt former appointees of John Mahama.
Reacting to this, Atick said it would be prudent that the supporters of the NDC ‘keep quiet for the law to take its course as their comments can be interpreted as an attempt to glorify corruption.’
