Stipends for players in Ghana Premier League under discussion – Kofi Adams

The Minister of Sports and Recreation-designate, Kofi Adams, has shared that discussions are underway to secure financial support for players in the Ghana Premier League.

The issue of low wages in the league has been a longstanding challenge, prompting many players to seek better opportunities abroad. This has led to the departure of several talented individuals, ultimately affecting the quality of the competition.

Speaking before the Vetting Committee, Adams stressed the need to retain top players in the Ghana Premier League and suggested that providing allowances could be a potential solution.

“We talked about giving them allowances so we can retain a number of our players,” the Member of Parliament for Buem constituency said.

“Some of them leave the shores of this country to play in war-torn countries just because their earnings are so low.

“The whole idea is to retain players by giving them stipends.

“We think it will go a long way to improve the league,” he added.

Adams believes this initiative will play a crucial role in improving the league’s standards. He is now awaiting Parliamentary approval to officially assume the role, where he will succeed Mustapha Ussif.
