StarTimes set to return as Ghana Premier League official broadcaster

-

Executive Council member of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Nana Sarfo Oduro has confirmed that StarTimes is set to return as the official broadcaster for the Ghana Premier League.

The Chinese-owned pay-TV provider which had previously held the league’s broadcasting rights, suspended its coverage after accumulating a debt of nearly $1 million.

However, in an interview with Asempa FM‘s Sports Nite, Sarfo Oduro revealed that talks with the company are nearing completion.

He stated that the deal is expected to be finalized in time for the second round of the ongoing 2024/25 season.

“As I speak to you, we are almost closing up with StarTimes, and it is likely they will return in the second round to broadcast our games,” Sarfo Oduro confirmed.

The return of StarTimes is expected to enhance the league’s media visibility and provide global access to fans. The broadcaster is also anticipated to cover FA Cup matches.

Since the switch to free-to-air broadcasters, the quality of the Ghana Premier League’s opening matchday broadcasts has faced widespread criticism for not meeting expectations.
