SSA-UDS calls off local strike as nationwide action continues

-

The Senior Staff Association of the University for Development Studies (SSA-UDS) has decided to suspend its local strike following a pivotal meeting with key stakeholders.

In a statement signed by SSA-UDS Chairman, Zakaria Mohammed, the Association announced the suspension of the strike, expressing optimism about the meeting’s outcome.

The meeting included representatives from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC), University Management, the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG), and the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA).

GTEC has pledged to address the Association’s concerns in collaboration with other stakeholders to reach a satisfactory resolution.

“The Executive Council has chosen to suspend the local strike after receiving assurances from GTEC that our concerns will be resolved appropriately,” the statement noted.

However, SSA-UDS emphasized that while the local strike is on hold, the National Industrial Strike Action, declared on September 16, 2024, continues unabated.

The Association urges all members to maintain support for the national strike until a positive response is received from the National Executive Council of the Senior Staff Association-Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG).
