The Ministry of Sports has signed an M.O.U with the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) to train some 5000 Ghanaians in its Youth in Sports Programme.
A total of GHS 10 million has being earmarked for the programme under the Community Improvement Module of the Agency. The one-year long programme will train beneficiaries in pitch management, stadium security, sports journalism among others.
Acting Executive of the Authority Justin Koduah Frimpong explained the idea behind the initiative to Citi News.
“We are looking around GHS 10 million exclusive of the allowances that we are going to pay to them [beneficiaries]. The allowance depends on the level of the person’s qualification of the beneficiaries.
But the minimum be GHS 400.00 and the maximum GHS 650.00. Once we have signed the MOU, the greenlight has been given. So the technical committee will now have to study the MOU again and look at which part they want to start with.”
Meanwhile the sector Minister, Isaac Asiamah says the Ministry has put in place measures to ensure the programme succeeds.
‘I am determined to ensure that the programme succeeds. All structures have been put in place; we have experts who are coming on board to support us and celebrities in Sports who are coming to motivate the beneficiaries. So I can assure you the programme will stand the test of time.”
He added that, “YEA has statutory funds so the YEA funding is reliable. It is through that funding arrangement we are going to get about GHS 10million.
Annually, YEA is to receive not less than GHS 300million. GHS 10million from their coffers will not affect their operations.”
