Patrick Osei Agyemang, the host of Fire for Fire on Adom TV, has urged the Youth and Sports Ministry to provide a detailed account of the expenses incurred during the African Games.
Ghana recently hosted the 13th edition of the African Games, but the Ministry responsible has faced mounting pressure to reveal the total cost of organizing the event.
Before the games commenced, Mustapha Ussif, the Youth and Sports Minister, confirmed that the construction of hosting facilities amounted to $195 million.
It has since come to light that the production costs were $3.6 million, while accreditation for journalists covering the event cost $4.5 million, according to Kobena Woyome, the Ranking Member of the Youth, Sports, and Culture Committee of Parliament.
These figures have sparked criticism from Ghanaians, with many questioning the financial investment and calling for an investigation into how the funds were utilized.
In response to these concerns, Osei Agyemang, popularly known as Countryman Songo, has demanded that the Sports Ministry releases a comprehensive breakdown of the expenses associated with hosting the games.
At the end of the Games, Ghana achieved its highest medal count in the 59-year history of the competition, securing a total of 69 medals. The country earned 19 gold, 29 silver, and 21 bronze medals across 10 sporting disciplines.
Notably, arm-wrestling made the most significant contribution to Ghana’s medal tally, accounting for 41 medals, which represents 60% of the country’s total haul.
