Sports Ministry must be investigated – Elvis Afriyie- Ankrah

Elvis Afriyie Ankrah has called for an investigation into the Youth and Sports Ministry following allegations of significant financial mismanagement and corruption.

His comments come after the 13th African Games, which the country hosted, resulted in several controversies.

Reports have surfaced that $4.5 million was spent on accreditation for local and international journalists, while $15 million was allocated for feeding athletes.

Additionally, it has been confirmed that $3.6 million was paid to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) for coverage of the event.

Reflecting on the intense scrutiny he faced following Ghana’s disappointing performance at the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil, Afriyie Ankrah expressed surprise that current officials at the Sports Ministry have not yet been investigated.

“These people, they went to where AFCON, all the mess. Why haven’t they been investigated?” questioned Afriyie Ankrah, a former Sports Minister, during an interview with Channel One TV.

“President John Mahama investigated me when I was his campaign manager. Everyone saw it live. Of course, they should be investigated as well,” he added.
