Sports journalist Veronica Commey has been appointed as one of the Deputy Director Generals of the National Sports Authority (NSA).

The announcement was made by the Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, during the opening of a sports psychology training event at the Accra Sports Stadium on Monday.

Commey, a respected member of the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), will serve alongside seasoned sports administrator Gideon Hammond as deputies to Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, the Acting Director General of the NSA.

With a distinguished career in journalism, Commey previously served as Chief Sports Journalist at the Ghana News Agency (GNA) before moving into freelancing.

She has collaborated with global sports organizations and held administrative roles, including as Head of Corporate Affairs at the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) from 2015 to 2017.

Commey’s experience also includes serving as the Media Officer for Team Ghana during the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in France.

While the NSA traditionally has two Deputy Director Generals—one overseeing administration and the other the Technical Directorate—it is unclear how responsibilities will be allocated between Commey and Hammond in the current structure.
