The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has suspended four Members of Parliament (MPs) effective immediately over the chaotic incident that marred the Appointments Committee session on Thursday.
The affected MPs are Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor (Majority Chief Whip), Frank Annoh-Dompreh (Minority Chief Whip), Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli (Gushegu MP), and Jerry Ahmed Shaib (Weija-Gbawe MP).
The suspension, according to Speaker Bagbin, will last two weeks.
He announced the punitive action on Friday as he condemned the unfortunate incident and expressed his disappointment.
The Speaker has directed the Parliamentary Marshal to prevent the suspended MPs from entering the chamber until further notice.
He warned that such behaviour would not be tolerated and cautioned that further action would be taken should similar incidents arise in the future.
Bagbin emphasised that their conduct was unbecoming of MPs, adding that the incident had brought shame to the arm of government.
He further explained that the suspension was necessary to maintain order and discipline within parliamentary proceedings, which he said had been severely undermined by the actions of the MPs.
