Speaker sets up committee to probe vetting chaos

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, has set up a 7-member bi-partisan committee to investigate the chaos that erupted in during the vetting of ministerial nominees on Thursday, January 30.

The committee will be chaired by Ho West MP, Emmanuel Bedzrah.

Adom News’ Correspondent, Ohene Amponsah reported that they have been tasked to identify those responsible for the disruptions and recommend appropriate actions.

Addressing the House on Friday, the Speaker stressed that no public funds would be used to repair any items damaged during the altercations.

Mr Bagbin warned that any MPs found guilty would be surcharged for the cost of repairs.

Pending the outcome of the probe, Speaker Bagbin has suspended four lawmakers for two weeks for their involvement in the chaos that led to the destruction of microphones and tables.

The affected MPs are Rockson Nelson Dafeamekpor(South Dayi), Frank Annoh-Dompreh(Nsawam-Adoagyiri), Alhassan Sulemana Tampuli(Gushegu) and Jerry Ahmed Shaibu(Weija-Gbawe).
